I'm currently a college freshman running at a upper level d2 school. My senior year I had some of the best training of my life leading to a huge 5k PR during XC and a very good indoor mile. Right at the start of the shut down though, I sustained a very bad ankle sprain. Initially I was told in 6 weeks I would be back to normal and just to stay off my feet but it never healed right. I've spent essentially the last year going to PT, trying to get back into running, getting tertiary injuries and every once in a while reaggravating my ankle eventually leading to me getting ankle surgery to tighten my loose ligaments/tendons. Basically, I haven't had a healthy training block of over 3 weeks since last year. Following my recovery from surgery I should be able to do things as I used to but I'm really nervous about getting back to my college training as I haven't done any real work for such a long time. Any advice as to how to approach this situation would be awesome, from personal experience or otherwise.
