I say this as a hypocritical meat eater. Any way you slice it, eating meat is immortal.
If you think you have a convincing argument otherwise, I'm all ears. But I've heard them all.

Unless you live in a third world country or something, I agree. But in the US with so much abundance, for the average person, theres really no reason other than pleasure. It is not necessary for survival at this point.
How about fish and wildlife control? How much more veggies would be needed if meat was not part of a normal diet?
It's tasty

Correct. Eating meat is a purely selfish and immoral act - "it tastes good! I can't give up my bacon!" - Never mind the fact your lunch (a once intelligent, living, breathing mammal) experienced unimaginable terror before being decapitated so it could be processed and served on bread with some veggies.
I'm not getting into the environmental argument against meat eating here, which I think is a bit weaker but still valid.

A possibly less immoral justification, but immoral nonetheless. At least in my book. Again, I say this as a meat eater.
Well, considering half of Americans are obese, if we are talking strictly survival we are already overproducing pretty much every food available.
Ooh. One the one hand: yes I know. On the other hand, well, I am not sure because I feel like there is maybe not proper full brain development/maintenance without animal fats. I know everyone will come at me for this. Apart from maybe YMMV, but he is AWOL from letsrun. Come back YMMV! We miss you! It is very conflicting. Do you honestly feel a fully vegetarian diet can not result in abnormalities?
I don't. Sorry. Tiny animals. I am sorry.

Isn’t eating killing something to eat the opposite of “immortal”?
The only thing wrong with immooooortality is it tends to go on forever.

No, you will still die if you eat meat.
It doesn't make you immortal.
(did I convince you?)
What exact moral do you follow that says eating meat is wrong and why?
I am against factory farming and overfishing, but eating meat by itself is not wrong. As long as you're not hurting the environment then I see nothing wrong with eating meat because it is the way nature intended. Unless you want to spend all day eating vegetables, like most herbivores do, or supplementing with artificial vitamins your whole life just to get the nutrition you need, then you need meat to support your health.

So, I'll live forever if I eat meat? Sign me up!
In my dream, malmo was really nice to me. He was kind of like a mentor. And he said something to me, is it going to come true? I need to know.
What about eating eggs and milk products?
Growing up in PA deer hunting season was practically a holiday. We got the first day of the season off from school. It was much more humane for a deer to die quickly from a bullet through the heart than to slowly starve to death as the food supply dwindled with the onset of winter. If you had a choice between being shot and dying rapidly or slowly starving to death over the course of several weeks or months, which would you choose?
Damn, I eat animals I go out and shoot. I guess I am going to hell
I would rather be shot and killed in my prime and consumed than go to waste as an old empty vessel.
Does that answer the question?
Virtually everything thing you eat was alive at some point. Why is eating meat immoral, but eating veggies is not?
We should be eating dogs and horses in the US. Lot of dogs and horses being killed at shelters and good free meat going to waste. Not joking.
