Does anyone else hate running on hard surfaces, it just makes me over train so much more and is not natural!
I want this stupid snow to melt!
I hate running on hard surfaces!

Before I got a car and could drive out to trails, I would do all my miles on the road or the track. I didn't mind it because it made me a tougher runner. The good thing about my body is that I've trained to to never get injured (no joke). Wear the shoes out until the bottoms are torn. I wear Altra Vanish shoes to feel the ground, and I love it!
But yeah, the trails are great too, especially dirt ones. The texture is great and I love to step on the roots. All fun! 🙂 -
I agree it would make you mentally tougher, but wouldn't it not be good for your short term performance, like if you are trying to get good recovery, speed emphasis maximally for the base when track starts you can be most efficent.
Long term i see the benefit of making you less injury prone, but seriously it can't be good short term.
Should i stop being a wussy and keep at it or should i get marathon shoes? -
Stop being a wuss! Give it a month, you'll get used to it :)

Ok but i forget to say i am a more heavyset runner and i always feel like crap running on the roads for a long time, not as smooth, efficient etc.. Is that normal, you said i will get used to it so im assuming it is?
And does being a little heavier than usual matter or not?
Im currently wearing Freedom Iso 3 shoes so they are ok cushioning but not marathon shoes. -
I weigh about 160lb 5,11.5

I have no idea. I'm a lean bean.

I am about 160 and 5,10-5,11 and I pretty much only run on the roads. I do about 50 miles a week and I have never been injured from the roads. The first month is a little tough but then you get used to it and I feel so much faster.

How is that "heavyset"? At 6'0", I was at my best running weight at 163. Granted, I was running 400/800 but with similar height & weight, I was far from a heavyset runner. At the time, I was built like a lean, mean, running machine (not so much these days, hah).

After about 22yo, I realized the same thing. Can you do shorter runs in the snow and add in some treadmill / stationary bike / pool running? In the past, this has worked for me. Recently, I have been doing stair workouts in a commercial building during inclement winter weather. -
In my best days I was 6" 1", 140-145 & did 65 miles a week. I went to Fitchburg State (MA). Very close to trails & country roads. Very little concrete sidewalks. I lived in Cambridge MA. When I would go home to Cambridge during breaks my shins would feel the concreate sidewalks. I would need to reduce mileage for a week or two. I never felt I had the ideal runners body, I would wake up with tired feet! My advice has always been to seek out natural surfaces. Better for the long haul plus running in the woods is better for the soul.
