Some people who step or step down to a 400 don’t know how run it correctly. 56/1:55. Hahaha. I’ve seen a lot of crappy 4x400 handoffs between distance runners where the outgoing runner is slow shuffling or standing still. Then the incoming runner has to slow down and run more distance or less distance based on the outgoing runner’s ability to do a handoff. Also running a 4x400 after a mile or longer distance may impact their 400 time.

200 or 400 speed required for 1:55 800

I can see that not too many of you ran 14 flat 5k or 29 flat 10k or have been around guys who did or you would know that some of them have absolutely no speed. They can muster up a 1:55.x and a 4:06 mile but it takes them 30 meters to get moving. I have a feeling that the Brojos are in that 56 second PR category.

People forget that most distance runners don’t know how to pace a 400m, and are usually tired by the time the 4x4 rolls around.
I’ve ran 56s at dual meets where I’ve already had to run 1600, 800, and anchor the sprint medley, despite being able to hit low 53s on fresh legs at invites. -
Our HS has a 1:55 guy right now. He's a 53.x 24.x guy. Maybe 52 high. I don't think he can crack 24 though.

My high school coach was a good 800 coach so I’m somewhat familiar with the training.
We had a guy who would’ve probably been low 1:50 or high 1:49 without covid. I want to say he could run 49, but not really sure.
I’ll probably run a 400 time trial in a couple weeks and reassess from there. Might update the thread too. -
56 is minimum. I ran 56 open and 55 split and ran 1:55x. I was a terrible starter and had no speed.

200 - 24.5 to 25
400 - 50.5 to 52.5 -
Did you not see that people have done it with a 56? Then why provide a faster response when the minimum has already been stated as being slower?

Did you not read the title of the thread where it says 200 or 400 speed required for 1:55 800? It's merely asking for peoples opinions on an open thread. Difficult to verify peoples claims that something actually happened. -
Good point. Since we can't verify your claim and you don't believe all of the people who posted slower 400 times, why even post your time? I guess you are as unreliable as the other posters.
The minimum is 56 for a very slow twitch guy. Anyone who ran on a high level college distance team or coached one, will tell you that there were guys who fit into that category. Ask Reed Fischer to tell you ho fast he can run a 400/800/1500. He has run 28:12 for 10k. -
Yeah you’re right on.
Really aerobic guys could push 53 high and really speed-based guys more like 51 high. Most people somewhere in between.
