The committee to Reinstate Men's Track & Field at Central Michigan University is hosting a Diversity Town Hall on Sunday February 28th at 7pm.

The committee is really trying to put some pressure on the administration to show that cutting a Track & Field team ends up cutting spots for black athletes. CMU is in the unique situation of a University who has cut a spot but has to add a mens sport back in order to remain D1.

Thanks for sharing Coach Hammel!
I think putting pressure on these schools is critical and will hopefully not only help with CMU, but provide a broader message to all universities.
If anyone would like to email the CMU administration and trustees you can use this link to send an email with no effort on your part, expect clicking on the Send button.

I do not know CMU, but I love T&F.
I think we need the entire T&F community standing together if we are going to change administrators minds.
I used the Link to email CMU. Keep fighting!! -
W&M, Minnesota, Clemson, Brown .....
when will this end? Such a terrible nonsensical precedence that is being sent.
These ADs and president's are wearing blinders.
I found this article interesting: https://thesportjournal.org/article/a-review-of-student-athlete-responses-to-team-sport-eliminations-by-ncaa-division-i-schools/ -

I really hope they are successful and Central Michigan reinstates men's T&F. This one seems especially stupid they have to add a men's sport to remain D1, so why did they cut a men's sport to begin with? As a former MAC XC/T&F athlete I really hate to see how many men's programs have been cut in the MAC. Good luck Chips! I'm so old that when I competed they were still the Chippewas'. and Eastern Michigan were still the Hurons :) -

Technically they are still the Chippewas, but that's a battle for another day haha.
Please keep the pressure on! -
Let's start a trend of MAC reinstatements!!

I am not CoachHammel, but the answer is Yes - you have to pre-register here:

They will reinstate the program and Walt Drenth will be the Coach. You heard it here first.

I'd take that scenario in a heartbeat.

I'd really like to understand the minds of these ADs and Presidents at mid majors.
12.5 scholarships for men's T&F, shared expenses and coaches with women's team. A roster of 60 athletes where most pay tuition. -

Yep, atleast around 25 kids no longer go to CMU who were paying full tuition. Enrollment is really down as a whole at CMU which is causing the financial problems. But the University will end up losing money on this decision as a whole, even if it slightly helps the Athletic Department budget.
A big cure all for the University, Athletic Department and teams would be to allow a bigger women's team roster, which would help that team, and also buys you more spots on the guys team. Similar to how Grand Valley does it. Bringing in an extra 100 walk ons is going to bring some $ in, also likely to help the diversity aspect of the University which is also poor. -
The diversity angle is a powerful one , but I also fully agree on the economy of this decision. The problem is that the university doesn't count increased enrollment $$ as a benefit or impact to the athletic budget.

As a former CMU and MAC runner myself this really hits home.
Both the MAC and CMU have rich traditions.
Old school athletes like the Drenths, Wottle and Earl Jones and more recent Olympians such as Clayton Murphy, Shawn Barber, Eric Alejandro and Alex Rose -
Wow, 7 MAC schools have cancelled men's T&F thus far.
Let's reverse that trend -
In addition Miami cut men's indoor T&F and Akron XC.
Safe to say that there really is minimal presence or competition and opportunity for men's T&F in the MAC until we can get a few of these programs reinstated.
It is an uphill battle though, even though we can demonstrate the benefits across the dimensions of finance, community, diversity and funding.

The sad thing is that CMU is now hosting the indoor MAC Meet this week. Hoping athletes will help us promote reinstatement
