A bit ridiculous BUT
laces and shoe tongue break airflow, which at jogging speeds is no big deal, but you start moving people around a track at 15mph+ where the feet have to move even faster forward, and every bit of resistance starts to add up
I could imagine them using streamlined uppers in seeking the next second per lap speedup.
Lockdown is critical though, at least to me, so they'd have to solve that without laces.
Of course it's a bit easier to focus on clothing and shaving legs, imagine how much faster Kinkaid would be lol -
this so called zapato is DOA.
