What is the difference?
What is the difference?
"stack height" is the thickness of the shoe, less the upper (and sometimes less the insole).
"heel-toe offset" is the difference between the heel stack height and the forefoot stack height.

Thanks. I need a 10-12 mm offset. the Running Warehouse next to "heel toe offset" is titled "stack height explained" so i wanted to make sure i was looking at the right metric.
I think I like my definition of "stack height" is better. Her definition is "the distance from where the shoe is sitting on the ground to the top of the shoes midsole". What if a shoe, for example, were to curve up and not be touching the ground where the measurement is being made? In that case, could the air distance between the outsole and ground be included in the "stack height", per her definition?
Look specifically at the picture @0:16 in the video.
There appears to be an air-gap underneath the outsole. However, with their "caliper device", @1:02 in the video, they do press down on the shoe (and hold it in such a way) as to remove the air gap. I think my definition of "thickness" removes any confusion on this matter.

Nobody “needs” a 10-12mm offset. It’s an arbitrary number for heel offset that was created because Eva foam use to come in 12mm strips (12 for the base, another 12 in the heel). No scientific backing
