Who cares what Sage thinks? He went to an inferior Ivy and was never as fast as Ben True

Sage is clearly jealous of Ben True

You seem fixated on that theme.
I know he's 35 but he has a chance of making the Olympic Team. Will he be able to pick up a sponsor? I honestly don't know how runners make any sort of living without a sponsor. The prize purse for races isn't nearly enough.

Even supposing it is true that Sage is clearly jealous of Ben True, why would that be too much for me?
That time is "nothing special" for a guy who almost broke 13 and who placed 6 th at the World XC . Morever, now True focus on the longer distance, so he might improve all his PB between the 10 000 m / 10 k and half marathon.

Sorry, Sage
Ben True has been overlooked as one of the most consistent Americans of the last 10 years. The guy has never knocked the 10k out of the park.... this is not the shoes, this is him being consistent in training and racing!
look at his last decade of 5k races. What is so odd about his new 10k PR!?

Facts aren’t Rojo’s strong suit
Both can be true (ha!)
The shoes take a second off per lap, he demonstrated that perfectly.
But he's also a fantastic runner both in talent and skill with a monster vo2max put to good use.
Our mistake is comparing previous PRs to current PRs, just don't do that.
There are pre-super-shoe times and post-super-shoe times. You can't compare them.
Hell all of BTC wear super-shoes all the time and are the new prototype testers with NOP gone, why are people picking on True?
Every record/PR Kincaid has set after 2016 has been in some Nike super-shoe prototype and yet people still compare records. Don't do that. There are pre-2016 times and post-2016 times.

Did you also know he has a wife who makes a pretty tidy income herself? The myopia on this board sometimes... okay, most days...

Saucony? Nike? That’s a serious PB. Just curious what he chose to wear now that he is a free man.
LRC note. We changed the title to make it more descriptive. It was initially titled, "Ben True 27:14. What were the shoes?"
I'm guessing that 99% of the people on this thread have ZERO clue as to racing at the elite level (world-class), let alone how a track spike is going to perform and impact their times. The technology is changing and thus improving performances, which is a good thing. How much it's improving performances is unknown, and to speculate on whether a fast time is legit or not is wrong. Before too long, the technology will be commonplace (if not already) and all world-class runners will have access to these so-called "Super-Shoes". On an earlier thread, someone mentioned Shelby H's 5000m PR last year was run in 2014 Nike spikes, that's a 6-year-old spike, is it safe to say her 14:23 is equal to sub 14:15 or faster? At the end of the day, you need to toe the line and run the race........... "It ain't the shoes, it's who's in the shoes".
Great run by the BTC men.......and Ben True!
"Go Run One"
I wonder how many of the BTC athletes know what it is like to race at the world class level because it seems that all they do is time trial. Set up time trials in perfect conditions with pacers and then throw in super shoes.
As far as SH in 2014 spikes? How do you know that they weren't custom and super shoes, made to look like the retail version.
BTW, are they drug testing during cover? Do they drug test at these secret BTC events?
you dummy, they were clearly victories... you cant fake cushioning when shelbys feet are slappin the ground in them
smh
Ben True running sub-28 at age 35 after 10+ years as a pro.
Give him props for still grinding at 35.
Give him props for showing up to the start line with no sponsor when his mid-30s counterparts have retired and moved on to other things.
Give him props for doing all this solo, not at altitude, without a youtube channel, unlike all of the other groups out there (Team Boss, BTC, Tinman Elite, etc..).
He is the guy that comes out of the boonies from somewhere in New England forest and kicks your ass in a race. At age 35. Give some respect to this dude instead of devaluing his accomplishments. He would have run sub 28 even with normal spikes.
Ben True was over-racing in 2019 to get into top 20 world ranking just to get health insurance. He is hungry AF. Don't write this dude out in the 10000m trials.

I agree- he’s a fantastic runner and he ran a great time. I really was just curious about this unique special situation: you have an elite runner that had a once in a career chance to put anything he wanted on his feet to run fast. He went with Nike. That says something.
