can anyone still argue in good faith that Ches is a better runner than Teare and Hocker? They are going to have much better careers than Ches.
They’re only 15 or so ncaa titles behind him at the moment. So yeah, I’d say there’s a significant argument.
Not much of a historian, are you?

The king is dead
Perhaps demote to Prince Ches????

Let's not forget to factor in that he was racing in Sketchers and not the Nike Dragonfly. Watch the race after the mile, he was obviously working just a bit harder than everybody else in the field. Letting these tiny gaps form while everybody else looked like they were on a tempo run.
Can we please stop referring to the brand as Sketchers? Either get it right, or perhaps also rename the others, Nikey, Addydas, Pumer, Sorconey, etc.
Let's start a movement to have BTC pick up Ches and Drew. Both those guys should be sub-13 by now but they've been slowed down immensely by completely preventable injuries and pseudo-elite coaching.

Ches as a freshman was older than Teare is as a senior. But Teare is still breaking all of Ches' records. Also there hasn't been an NCAA championship in 15 months due to some worldwide pandemic that you might have heard of.
Ches had a lot less competition, too. Current guys like McDonald, Klecker, Hoare, Kerr, Fisher are legit Olympic talents. Technically Ches raced them too but he was 26 and they were 19.

0/10 - trying too hard.

Repeating this lie over and over doesn't make it true.
Tommy Haas may not be a great coach from what I saw of some workouts years ago on video but he was a 7:51 3k guy in college, so you can't just say he should stick to being an agent. He obviously knows a little about training and racing.

Well, take away any one of Cheserek’s years, and they’re still 10 NCAA titles or so behind, right? Neither of them have won even one.
And stop with the less competition junk. It’s the same level then as it is now. For example, guys like Ryan Hill (7:30) and Lawi Lalang (13:00) were just as strong. You’ve either got a really poor memory, or just haven’t followed track abd field for very long.
For the record, Ches was born in 1994, unless you have some kind of secret information the rest of the world doesnt have?
Look, you are infatuated with these two shiny little trinkets being dangled in front of you on YouTube. I get that, but they have a very, very long way to go before bumping Cheserek off the top.

The best runners are not necessarily the best coaches.

He ALREADY has the standard.
As a result, what I don't get is why he was doing this race in the first place if he wasn't 100% ready to rip, why even bother, particularly when you are running in sub-par spikes.
he's run 349 mile, 1304, and 2723 as a pro.
Great point Rojo, why the f is he racing if there’s even a chance that his body isn’t right? You could see a mile into it that something was wrong.
The fact has he’s run those times and hasn’t had a single memorable moment in a big race tells me everything I need to know — he’s fit and ready to go at all the wrong times. That, plus constant injuries, points to bad coaching, IMO.
On top of everything, if he had a real sponsor I guarantee they would have pulled some strings and he’d be a US citizen by now. You really think Nike or adidas would let an investment like that just sit on the sidelines and watch?
Poor decision after poor decision up to this point. I hope he gets it right, I was a fan of some of his racing, particularly XC NCAAs as a freshman.
He has missed his window of opportunity. This happened to me as well. He will not be a factor by 2024

He should of left and got a bike contract after his soph year. Oregon ran him into the ground..by his senior year he was running on sheer talent. After his freshman year it was clear he was something special..should of gave them one more year and been gone smh
“Should have given”
Clever trick: if you write “should have” instead of “should of,” people are more likely to respect what you say.
I agree he should have gotten that bike contract though. ?

Ryan Hill graduated before Ches started college. They literally raced zero times.
Lalang and Ches raced twice at NCAAs. Ches won indoors in the 5k an hour after Lalang ran a mile prelim. Lalang won outdoors in the 5k.
And you say my memory is bad? You can't even remember who Ches raced against because he raced against NOBODY.

Tommy Haas was a tennis player, Stephen Haas is his agent/coach

For once Rojo has it right. I'll add he also ran 7:38. The spikes didn't need mentioning, but at the end of the day, he was a phenomenal collegiate runner who got very near his potential, but has still managed to improve as a professional at many different distances. The only thing holding him back is not being an American citizen, because it means all he can really do is time trial and hope to run fast enough to make the Kenyan team.
He lost to Pat Tiernan whose college PRs were slower than Teare in every event.

Off the top of my head Cheserek has competed against Marc Scott, Kennedy Kithuka, Eric Jenkins, Justyn Knight, Sean McGorty, Pat Tiernan, Futsum Zeinasellassie, woody Kincaid, Lalang, Mohammed Ahmed, and Shadrack Kipchirchir.
Pretty stacked list IMO. Probably missing a lot of guys from indoor seasons as well. Cheserek was the best NCAA athlete of all time across literally any sport. Instead of making fun of him that he’s sponsored by Skechers and not a US citizen how about you put some respect on his name.
You could take Chesereks peak shape in the NCAA and he would win everything from 2017 XC onwards besides a handful of mile/1500 titles. He’s the best to ever do it in the NCAA. Morgan McDonald is great and all but you really think he’s out kicking Ed Ches? No shot
