Runs 22:30 for 8k-faster than most all time great collegians ever run-in his second collegiate race as a freshman. WOW

Obviously a short course.
Yeah I'm a fan of Nico and all, but this course was definitely short. I think there were something like 10 people under 23 minutes. However, I don't think the one a few weeks ago (Silver State Invite) was short.
Who care about the course. Nico is a threat to the top three at NCAA's. WOW just WOW.

Definitely a threat. But then again so is Nur, since he beat Young today. I am very excited for this race!

Because we were clearly meant to be impressed by the time. Times don't mean anything unless they correspond to concrete distances.
But yeah, he's amazing.
from a video it looked they knew that had it won and came in together.
Is Nico the most talented American XC runner since Ritz? Ritz finished 4th as a frosh, Solinsky finished 11th, as did Fernandez. Who else? Obviously will need to see what happens at nationals.
Rupp
Milesplit has Silver State (Feb 1) as being run at Craig Ranch Regional Park in Las Vegas.
The USATF has today's Battle Born meet listed as being at...Craig Ranch Regional Park in Las Vegas.
How much was the course changed in the last 18 days?
If Nico places high he’ll have to hear about how the field was watered down for a year till he does it again

Really? Rupp didn't even win FL. He lost to Withrow who finished 9th at NCAA as a freshman. Rupp didn't run that year as Oregon did not qualify. But Rupp did finish 6th as a soph.
You can certainly make the case that Rupp was better on the track but I'm talking just about XC.
to be fair he didn't run the next fall becuase he was not enrolled at U of O until the spring quarter but he did go on to win an NCAA xc title
Well, if the 2 best runners in NCAA history skip XC, I have to agree.
I think what is more impressive is beating luis g by 5 seconds
Also, a 13:16 guy running 22:35 on a flat, smooth course sounds about right.
And a 29:00 10k is equivalent to a 22:52 8k (Tinman pace calculator). So if a flat course on very short, hard, smooth grass is just slightly slower than a track, than these times are at least conceivable on a correctly measuread course... and 2 college kids just ran 3:50.. so I’m just more prone to believing these seemingly crazy fast times are legit.
Which 13:16 guy? And using that logic, how many sub 13:50 guys were in the race?

Nope. This course is obviously short. I think Nico might be able to run 22:30 on the track though. Do not assume that a 13:16 guy runs a 13:16 effort every time he runs a cross country race. Why would he?

I guess Ches doesn’t count since he is somehow still not a citizen.
Puskedra was like 5th or 6th I think. Don’t remember what Derrick was. Teg I think was 8th and then 5th at world junior xc (behind Ritz and Bekele).
A 13:16 is equivalent to 21:48 (again using Tinman pace calculator). Of course, grass should be slower, but how much slower? Obviously it depends on the grass, and this grass looked very short from the live stream on Instagram. 22:35 isn’t as good as 13:16, so I agree with you, he won’t give a 13:16 effort every time.
To answer the previous poster, many guys in that race are sub 13:50.. Alex Parsons, who was 12 in 23:27, has ran 13:47.
