Wow Nico Young is fast! Was the pace at an honest effort?
Good to see Brodey Hasty beating some good runners.
The best imported team.
Great showing by NAU...but one stat concerns me
8. Brodey Hasty Northern Arizona 23:23
This places Hasty, who was one of the top recruits at NAU, as #5, at least statistically going in.
Does Hasty have a future with NAU, or would he be better to transfer as a #5?
Also, would he be/would he have been better off at Oregon?

Ah yes, the "imported" team where 5 runners are American and 2 have lived in the US since they were an infant.
Nevada had 8 guys between 26:03 and 27:00. Pretty solid depth.

that is just not true.
Not every top recruit is gonna end up being a top 10/20 guy at NCAAs. Just isn't feasible.

Brodey Hastey?
Ok, I was wrong about Nur. He came here when he was 7 or 8. My point still stands for the other ones.
Young - from CA
Grijalva - came here when he was 1 from Guatemala
Ferro - from NJ
Hasty - from UT
Burks - from AZ
Marquez - from AZ
All of them went through the American high school system which makes them "home grown" talent in my mind. I get NAU has often imported Kiwi or Australian runners in the past few years, but the team that ran today is definitely not an "imported" team.
An actual short course but still fast

lol.
Young 53” up on Cole Sprout seems impressive.
No, I get that... But with Nur, Young, Grijalva, etc, is Hasty going to ever get the coaching he needs to have a chance of overtaking any of NAU's top 3?

Looks like a bad day for Sprout. Most of his team ran around 35 seconds faster than they did in FL a few weeks back, while he was under 10 seconds faster.

What do you mean by "coaching"? Maybe he's just not as talented as those guys? The coaching at NAU is top notch. It certainly doesn't seem like Smith is only focused on his top guys...NAU has great depth.

Hasty ran about 1 minute faster today than last time out

Hasty was running really high mileage in HS, 90 mpw I recall correctly. Sometimes even the best coaching in the world isn't enough to take you to the next level. Everyone has a ceiling, and it seems Hasty is reaching his. But it's not like he's doing bad either - he still beat most of Stanford's and Colorado's runners and placed well in this race.

Does the coach only coach the top 3? He's not a walk on as a favor to a donor, he'll get plenty of attention.

Especially silly statement considering NAU is famous for turning depth guys in top scorers! Their depth is top notch!
