I saw that Jason Gomez just became the fifth fastest collegian of all time over 1000 meters. That’s a very impressive addition to an indoor season that already featured a 2:49 1200m leg and a 1:47 800m run; it’s also interesting that he was second in the race to an unattached (matched) Festus Lagat. Lagat has a 1:45.0 and 4:00 mile PR; weeks ago, people were asking about Gomez’s 1500 meter ability, and this clearly shows he has potential; but, he still does slow from 53.5 to 55.6 from 800m to 1000m, but holds 56.^mid in the 1200.
As a senior in college, Brannon Kidder went from 1:47/2:18 indoors to 3:40 outdoors. Would anyone argue that this is not a valid comparison?

ADDITION: Kidder, of course, had a 3:38 to his name a couple of years prior, and had also run 1:45 a year or two before; but, that’s where I see Gomez going.

Yeah, count me in on this kid’s bandwagon. I think he’ll run 1:45 this summer and be a contender to make U.S. 8/15 teams in 2 years.

Seconded
I think he is a dark horse for the 800 at NCAA indoors
