Considering he's run 3:50 and ran the U20 WR he'll easily be offered a six-figure contract this summer.
Should he take it or wait another two years and rack up some titles?

I think he should decide before the trials if it looks likely that he will make the team.
Nike moneys always gonna be there for Oregon guys. No rush.
Always? It wasn't there for Acosta.

Ches?
I think he needs to show he can do it again and again first. He has had a couple good indoor races over a couple week timespan, but I think he needs to show he can run a 3:36 1500 outdoors to really make it seem like he should go pro to me. If he only runs a 3:38 outdoors, he'll just be one of the guys in the pack.
He needs a couple more good performances wrote:

He ran 3:35 1500m indoors en route to a mile. He’s ready to go pro but I’m sure he wants to gets a couple NCAA titles before that.

He should have an NCAA title to leave (go pro).
3:38 outdoor? That is 7:36 3k pace which is closer to what he could run outdoor. He could run 3:38 in practice in training shoes.
Hocker did a podcast today, said the 3:50 gave him new confidence in practice like any other PR he's had, except now he knows he can hang with anyone. Seems like a dude, good head on his shoulders, and having Teare and the rest of the squad alongside def helps.
I think the way US 1500m running is right now (big cluster at 3:35-6) gives him an outside shot at the Trials, but he's only 19. Reasonable expectations should be maintained.
- Top 3 NCAA Indoors Mile/3k/DMR
- Throw down a fast 1500 and 5000 outdoors
- Top 6 NCAA Outdoors 1500
- make the Olympic Trials 1500 final
that's in line with what he can achieve and what is healthy for his growth IMO
Does OR go for maximum points by retooling the DMR, letting Hocker just run the mile and Hunter just run the 800 (or mile), with Teare on DMR and in 3,000? Mile and 800 trials are within an hour of DMR.
He should finish college.
Look at Drew hunter!! That's what happens when you go pro to early

You might want to put a new battery in your calculator.

Going pro early in distance running is foolish. If it were the NFL or NBA with multi-million dollar opportunities, that would would be another thing.
Competing at the top levels of NCAA is likely to be enjoyable and there's nothing wrong with having a college degree.
Which podcast? I'd love to listen.

?
Get a degree, get it paid for, enjoy being one of the best in the ncaa. There is really no reason to go pro early.

convos over cold brew w Emma Abrahamson
Aren’t Teare and Hunter graduating this year? I would predict that Hocker doesn’t set a mile PR until his 5th year if so. Not saying he won’t be great, but we shouldn’t be acting like this guy is suddenly a world beater/ best US runner
I mean the money will be there. Its oregon. Plus Ben Thomas training. Also i think next fall they will try to go for the team title in cross as they’ll have everyone+aaron bienefeld
