Hey all. I'm currently a HS junior 3200m & 5k type runner. I've run sub 10 in the 3200m a couple times (4:40 mile pr, but I don't do the mile a lot) , and my goal for this track season is 9:40. Let's assume that I get this 9:40 3200m time by the end of spring track my HS junior year. Would I have what it takes to go sub 9:20 around Fall of my Senior year? At 9:40 I'd be so close to what all those D1 schools want for recruiting times, but I would that sub 9:20 to seal the deal. Is this type of improvement possible for someone like me?
Am I psyching myself out?

Worry about 9:50 and 9:40 before you start thinking about 9:20. It is impossible to know without knowing more of your running history, and even then it would be somewhat unknowable. But certainly not impossible.

What does your coach say? Are you working with him/her to develop a specific plan? If not, that's probably the best place to start.
It's mid February now. Not a lot of time between now and spring track to drop 30 seconds off your 3200 PR, if you haven't already been working towards it.
Maybe you could develop a 6-month plan targeting meets in August or even Labor Day. The tradeoff would be giving up your summer basework for senior year fall XC, and training thru your junior spring track season (meets would be workouts and you would want to coordinate this with your track coach).
You need to travel to find late summer all-comers meets, but (dunno about covid) they are usually findable.
