You could argue comparison to their closest geographical and cultural neighbors is a valid way to judge Sweden (Den, Fin, Nor) but I digress...
In first wave, that was indeed their official strategy and they arguably failed. As the preliminary report from their corona comission showed and as showed by the documentary series "Uppdrag Granskning" they didn't really do a meaningful attempt however, so that strategy applied for first wave in name only..
I've stated this before, you've read it before, it's not my words, it's their own words by their own official corona comission and also by the most famous and reputable documentary tv series in Sweden.
To keep on repeating it to fit a narrative doesn't make it true.
In 2nd wave the protection of the elderly have been much improved. For the population peak 2nd wave deaths were exactly same as 1st wave, while peak deaths in nursing homes were just a little over half of first wave.
As far as mass deaths are concerned: Please go to Sweden thread. Numbers are there.
To say there has been mass deaths are relative isn't it?
Almost 10% of covid deaths in Sweden can be explained by mild flu season in 2019 , further more mortality have dropped so significantly (almost 20%) in Sweden last couple of decades that as a result the vulnerable population have grown quite a lot.
20 Years ago the mortality was almost 10% higher than the disastrous 2020, year after year, and NO ONE spoke of MASS DEATHS...
You could argue part of the reason so many die is because of advances in health care/reduction of smokers etc...
As a result, even a mild pandemic would seem disastrous while hardly be worthy of a mention as late as the early 2000s because of the huge increase in a very vulnerable popualtion...
This is not comparing to the 50s 60s or 70s.. It's comparing to less than 20 years ago!
That's just facts.
Include Norway in your comparison, with negative excess deaths in 2020 even against a low baseline of the 5 prior years as the standard..
Yeah, let's do that, that's reasonable..
For the umpteenth time:
I don't dispute covid 19, but the hysteria is just craaaazy. (and I back it up with numbers in the case of Sweden)
