It's not an elite thread?. Why doesn't Kipchoge race before going to base camp race to check his fitness? Quit using examples of a high school kid or this random person. Why do elite runners only appear when they are ready to race? They workout for months, then appear at an event, even hobby joggers like the Athlete Special or Ben Barrows haven't raced in over a year. Ben Barrows hasn't raced since mid 2019, besides a time trial over a year ago.
Becasue they don't want to harm their image by losing. Plus Kipchoge is a marathon runner who typically only race a few times per year[/quote]
Pay attention to what you just said in the first sentence. Exactly, don't race until you know you're ready. Lastly, what works for one person might not work for the next. Some people get discouraged and self doubt everything after a bad performance. It happens at all levels of sport and all sports. It just depends on the sisutation and the individual. The worse thing that can happen for a runner is to run poorly after not being far enough along in their training and all of a sudden second guess everything and start changing things because they weren't quite ready yet to race.
