I got bit by two off leash pit bulls while out on a run. My dog recently got attacked by an off leash dog while I was just standing around at the park while my kid was playing. And then I got charged by a GSD while out walking my dog in the neighborhood. The owner of the GSD acted like it was no big deal. I told him he needed to keep his dog on a leash. He started in at me with the "hey, look buddy, you don't get to tell me what . . . " I then lost my sh#t on him. A neighbor came out hearing the yelling. He thanked me and said that everyone on the street was sick of that guy letting his dog run around the street.
Was this recent? If so, hope you're alright.
I have noticed an increase in people letting their dogs out in the neighborhood without leashes, fences, etc. I live in an established neighborhood near the urban center of town, so not rural and not even suburban. This has never been an issue. Maybe something to do with COVID craziness?
I have been bitten a few times as well over the years. Had to get the rabies vaccine one time.
But the single worst dog encounter I have ever had was over the summer when I went in with my neighbor on a $300+ blow-up waterslide/pool toy for our kids. Poor kids had been out of school for months, on lockdown in their houses and yards with very little to do. No pools are open. Hotter than Hades outside. Since our neighbors are next door, we have just maintained a small bubble with them over the year. We order this huge thing off of Amazon, it arrives, I use a bike pump to blow it up. We hook it up to the hose. This thing is awesome. Kids come out and start to play in it. 5 minutes in, a dog from the street runs into our backyard. We have a fence, but the gate was open so the neighbors could walk over. This dog jumps into the blow-up toy, barking, and then rips a big hole in it and then runs back out. It was terrible.
I run out to see what is going on and there is a guy running after the dog trying to get it to settle own. Dog runs back into our yard and starts biting the now-deflating waterslide/pool and growling. Kids are crying. Owner runs into my backyard to try to get his dog and I am yelling at him to get the dog. Finally I get the dog by the collar and I am TERRIFIED that it is going to bite me. It doesn't. I give the dog to the guy and he just starts to leave. I am like, "hold on buddy."
Long story short, he pays us for the thing but not without a fight and the usual, "he never runs away from me. It was all the action from your backyard that riled him up."
