I am a junior in hs who is currently gearing up for outdoor track this spring. I started training back in the last week of November (1 week off from xc) and i was wondering if my “season” (real competition starts in April and ends in about mid June with scrimmages in March) was too long and if I was at risk of burn out? I run 60 miles a week right now with every 5th week being a down week of 40 and my prs are 4:43 in the mile and 10:00 in the two mile... I haven’t done any speed work except tempo runs at 5:40-5:50 pace and long run progressions working down to 6:00... I also crank out fast long runs sometimes recently I did 12 at 6:20 but I’m not going to do that anymore. Anyway I was just wondering if my training is too intense or if it’s too long of a build up and what I should do about it? One solution I had was a doing a down week every 4th week instead until April that way I got more recovery in, but let me know what you guys think.
