Check out the article below. I do think running in my youth was good for my mental health after a turbulent childhood. Now at 40, I've been feeling grumpy and I realized I almost never run any more. Maybe I just need to start running 50mpw again. Thoughts, LRC nation?
Yes! But, there's not need to go from 0 to 50MPW! Your body releases a huge wash of hormones from exercise--550%!!!! This is from Steve Magness:
"If we look at growth hormone release during easy running, there’s a swift rise intitially for the first 30-40min of a run, and then it levels off significantly to 60min. In one study, it showed an increase of about 550 percent from 0-40min, yet from 40-60min it only went up another 40-50percent. "
So, just go out & hit a 30+ minute jog & see how you feel afterwards.
When I am really stressed at work, I'll do a morning shake-out run just to "burn off" stress & get that hormone release. I told my coworkers about this & they say can tell the difference when I run in the morning & when I don't. Yep.
