I've read that a few times before. Not just Jakob but his brothers too. Hence the tantrums when they don't win.
I have been an Inge fan since the days Henrik was the only competing at senior level and I seriously hope they are not doping but this is a huge red flag. Seems like it would be easy to go down the win at all costs road.
Triathletes are a great example of how close being good in endurance sports can transfer as long as the other sports get trained substantially as well.
Olympic triathletes are on a very high level in each of the 3 disciplines. But they put in the work in each discipline. Also triathletes are usually people who weren't quite good enough as swimmers or runners so they chose triathlon.
Johaug ran a 31 min 10k (as female) based off a little running here and there in addition to her main sport, XC skiing.
Jakob's VO2MAX was measured in the high 80s. Even among elite/Olympic athletes that's extraordinary. His threshold is at a pace beyond what most people here can imagine. I don't think he is just being arrogant or overestimating his ability, I honestly think he could have done extremely well in cycling, Nordic skiing and rowing as well, and also in triathlons if he somehow gets his swim done to at least an acceptable level.

They also show you the gap between being good and great. You go from an olympic champion triathlete to a runner that make the trials but probably not content.
if Jakob would have taken XC skiing, biking, or swimming odds are he would be good with the aerobic engine he has. But would those sports have mapped to his other abilities well enough for him to be top 10 in the world or would he have been back a couple notches.

Tantrums?
This could be a key to his success. He’s willing to do the boring cross training, treadmill running, short sprints, core work, weight training... that a lot of runners don’t want to do. They love the activity of running so they just want to run. They would rather just frolic through the woods then do the “little things” to compete at a high level.
Interesting quote considering the only 1500m races he's won were when no one else ran under 3:34.

So Centros Olympic gold in 3:40 doesn't matter?
So what does that mean for Brazier if he can only run a near 3:36? That he's painfully slow?
So what does this mean if the only person that could beat him at age 19 could only beat him by a fraction of a second, and at 20 Jakob looks even faster?
Will you be back when Jakob wins gold and say that "yeah, he got gold but no one else ran under 3:28?"

I didn't say any of those things, nor imply them. I just pointed out that it is strange for a guy who cares about winning to only win races when others aren't in top form.
Lol. I guess from now on, no one will ever be in top form, as long as they finish second to Jakob I.
Yup, Wightman at 3:29 & Filip & 3:30 finishing BEHIND Jakob were definitely not in top form.
I can't wait for Mr. Wightman to crush that British record and run a 3:27. But only once he gets into top from of course.

Those aren’t the times they ran in any race Jakob won though, is it? Jakob has never won when someone else has run under 3:34. I’m sure he will, but it’s hard to call him obsessed with winning given that track record.

Just because someone doesn’t win much doesn’t mean they can’t be obsessed with winning. And what does the fact that he’s never won when someone else has run under 3:34 have to do with anything? In what universe is a win more impressive if the guy in second place is closer to you?

Not sure what this was getting at but yes, Centro's 3:50 medal doesn't matter. And yes, Brazier is painfully slow at the 1500, considering his level at 800, and compared to someone fast who runs 3:30.

You can be obsessed with winning and still not win. Jakob can be obsessed with winning and still finish a few tenths of a second behind one of the greatest 1500m runners of all time while he's still a 19 year old. And I bet there have been really impressive races where one person ran 3:33 and no one else did.
Plus, all of the people yesterday may have been in top form, and Jakob ran so fast that he simply wore them out and left them in his wake.
Basically, it's not hard to call him obsessed with winning. Someone did it already really easily.
I suppose the Marathon will humble him a bit one day.
Jacob doesn't seem to be content with participation trophies.
Sorry, Jakob*.
