It’s ignorant stuff like Tatar said that absolutely blows me away. Wow!

This kind of criticism is the absolutely useless kind. Nobody cares. You describe what you see. Nothing racist about it. Maybe you don’t see color. Or size. Or shape. Or anything.
Look at how well Chinese platform divers do.

Another attack on Asian Americans brought on mostly by the pro-Trump crowd.
“In the case of Asians in the U.S., the overwhelming majority vote Democratic,” Wax argued. “I find Asian support for these policies mystifying, as I fail to see how they are in Asians’ interest. We can speculate (and, yes, generalize) about Asians’ desire to please the elite.”
“As long as most Asians support Democrats and help to advance their positions, I think the United States is better off with fewer Asians and less Asian immigration,” she added.

Asian are less than 7% of U.S. population, but Asians are in more than 10% of national tv commercials. No one has forgotten there are Asians and Asians in U.S.
So you think three more people per 100 is significant?

Asian lives do matter too. They just seem to be quieter when treated unfairly. No protests, no one raising fists, no blaring headlines, no huge uproar. Maybe we need some.

Why do I agree with this idea and yet wonder how much prime real estate in our cities is owned by Asians? Wonder how their income levels match up across the board. Then I think about American Indians and wonder the same.
The internment camps under a Democrat White House and Congress.
Let's now whitewash their crimes
It's not surprising that the Republicans would want to keep this from being taught in schools.
I know some Koreans on a rooftop that would like to have a word with you...
My experience as an Asian has been overall quite fair. Asians are seen as non-threatening so we are able to fly well under the radar in general.
For some reason, there's a segment of racists who are racist against maybe black people or Mexican people but are okay with Asians. Odd, but works in our favor.
I've mostly had positive experiences with cops. And I have definitely not always been a law-abiding contributing member of society (although I am now).
I can only remember experiencing racism as a kid from other kids. It wasn't life defining or tragic for me. It was words that I did not internalize.
I have never been a victim of racist violence. In fact, there are times when I probably deserved a beating here and there and I narrowly avoided it as a "non-threatening asian".
I know racism exists against asians and has gotten worse during the pandemic. But I personally have not been treated any worse during this time period.
I do have concerns that if our government grows too antagonistic with North Korea or China, every type of asian in the US potentially suffer because people are ignorant and see all asians as the same.
I'm Korean but a Californian by birth. Grew up around 50% mexican, 50% white. When I moved to Koreatown in LA briefly, I actually found the Koreans there to be sort of unfriendly and reclusive. It wasn't a community I was interested in being a part of. If you ask a Korean in Ktown for directions, they might just give you a dumb look and not even dignify your question with an answer. I find that totally rude elitest behavior. Or they are being insecure scared weirdos.
I have on occasion gotten an odd type of positive racism in a way. Like having random white people assume I know martial arts or eastern philosophy. I usually let them believe that I know karate and spend lots of time meditating. ha
One thing that sucks about being asian (minor gripe), is that if I ever go to a stand-up comedy show, they usually try to seat me up front but I never want to be seated up front because 80% of the time, stand up comedians struggling to come up with material target asian dudes for little weiner jokes. When this happens to me, I have good humor about it and laugh along if they are actually funny. It just gets old when it happens for the 5th time.
Also, FYI, almost nobody is actually allergic to MSG. That's some racist stuff that people made up because many years ago a handful of dirty chinese restaurants served food that made people sick. It's not the MSG, it's the dirty kitchens. MSG allergy from what I've observed pretty much only happens to hypochondriacs.
You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders. Just curious, when you grew up, did you often hear the phrase "sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me?" Because people don't believe that anymore, and it's hard to fathom someone who didn't hear it brushing off racism the way you describe.
I was born in 79 so I'm on the cusp of Gen x and the gen after. I suppose I was raised to not have a victim mentality.
Words can absolutely be devastating. A few words and 2 people fall in love. A few words and 2 people get divorced. A few words and violence happens.
That being said, one of the few things we truly have control over is how we interpret our environment and to what degree we allow things bother us. We actually have a choice in the matter and don't have to go by some dysfunctional auto-pilot of emotional reaction.
We get to decide and choose where the line is as far as disrespect and what is acceptable. I understand I'm a minority and if I want to live in reality, I should expect the treatment that minorities get. It's not a judgement on if it's right or wrong, it's trying to accept reality on reality's terms. I'm not delusional enough to believe "life is fair". It can feel fair if we organize it the right way. It's up to us.
Call me a racist slur. I can respond by getting triggered and angry and lose control which would prove I'm the loser. Or I can rise above petty behavior and not even begin to allow it to bother me. I can actually laugh at it and feel grateful I'm not that kind of dummy that would throw the racist slur or get triggered by it. What's going to be in my best interest? I'm not gonna fight someone over words to protect my respect. I'm a self-assured adult. I don't gotta prove my manhood. Not by fighting or by being a "fast" runner.
