Jakob also did not run 3:28 yesterday which would be closer to Tsegay's and the top 3000m men's performances.
At least some of you are acknowledging that the 7:24 is obviously superior.
Weird. And you people follow track?

I dont agree.I believe Jakob is doping, and so are his brothers.Yes hes an amazing athlete, nobody will ever dispute that, but theres no way in hell hes clean. He's being protected, just like a lot of other elite stars.Teenagers cannot run 1500 meters in 3.28,not without cocktails of drugs.Thats similar to chinese female teenagers running 3.51,as they did in the 90s.Otherworldly and ridiculous.
No one knows what anyone is taking. Could also be that if Jakob was taking the same thing the chinese females were or some of the Ethio stars, he could be going 3:25 now.

Grant comes out FIRING. He ran 7.35 in March 2019. This could be good!
Colin Jackson's 7.30 WR is quickly nearing 30y/o. 3/6/94
Damn, 7.32 for the AR and lean away from the WR.
A reminder, from Jon Mulkeen, of how huge a talent Grant is:
60 - 6.50
60H - 7.35
110H - 12.98
Long jump - 8.17
High jump - 2.16m
4x100 - 37.97
4x400 splits: 43.74, 43.88 (aged 19), 44.91 indoors
He seriously needs to get into a 400h with Warholm
or a decathlon. I input Grant Holloway's relevant pr's, putting 10.1 for 100m based on that 6.50 (could potentially break 10), gave a conservative 44.5 on the 400m, and then fairly poor marks on the unknown events, including 4:55 for 1500m, and still got over 8800 points (I figure that he is strong enough to be able to get 15m in the shot eventually). With his build, he looks like he could eventually be pretty good at the weight events and his strength and speed would be great for the pole vault but that would take a lot of learning. Bottom line is that within a couple years of training, he might well be world record holder and world champion.

I don't know and no one else here knows but Jakob has a training age that is higher than many of his competitors, so it's not surprising he is this good at this age from this family.
When Tefera ran 3:31 for the world record, he was then beaten in 3:36 by Jakob in the next race.
Of course I find highly dubious the 3k men's results and the 1500m women's, but we have to leave the shoe explanations to the IAAF, which is failing to police the technology appropriately, and we have to leave the other non-shoe stuff for the testers and police action to find doping rings.
Lets hope they get better at those jobs then ! ;)

There's too many reliable performers in the 1500 and it will almost certainly be fast rather than tactical. 5000 finals are usually tactical so even if there is Obiri, Hassan, and Gidey, I could see Houlihan kicking at least one of them in a slow race. In the 1500, she will need to have her best day ever and it still might not be enough, she might need to run 3:53 just for a medal. A 14:30 is likely to be enough for a medal in the 5000
Sub 14:30 was not enough in Doha without Gidey and Hassan in the 5k race (4th at 14:29.6)
But I am also wary about last night's results (not accusing anyone, might also be shoes, bouncy track). We will see outdoors. Tsegay has been strong but also uneven before. Last year she completely faded in the Zurich DL but came back for Bronze in Doha.
Yeah, it's still hard to say if Doha 5k was an outlier or if sub-14:30 for a medal is the new normal with the new spikes. Previously, you could reasonably expect a medal with a 14:40. With Gidey in the mix, she likes to front-run so the pace will be hot. Maybe Houlihan is just screwed and needs to hope for a few mistakes.
Muir is in a really tough position. She's in great form and could even have a 3:54-low in her but she'll need 2-3 others to have a bad day to be in contention.
I had no idea that Kipyegon was "battling pregnancy" when she ran so fast in 2019. LetsRun is full of insider knowledge!
I think that the 1500m race in Doha was more unusual than the 5k race. In the past Ayana was the only one who'd force a fast tempo, in Doha Obiri did it who would have been expected to be the best finisher (and she was). (And I think Koko was too timid, she should have gone with 1000m to go instead of losing in the last lap.) There are probably only two or three women who would try frontrunning a fast 1500m as Hassan did (and maybe none incl. Hassana would succeed a second time) but at least a handful who could and would force a sub 14:30 by frontrunning and would have a chance to succeed. As Doha and the 2019 DL 5k races showed, to medal one better be able to run sub 14:30 in an unevenly paced race with a ca. 60 sec last lap.
So apart from the fact the Houlihan has run very few real competitions in 3k/5k I think that she is a considerably better 1500m runner and in many races not quite as unusual as the Doha finale she would have pretty good chances for medals.
Houlihan is hardly out of the running because the race may go sub 14:30, as she ran that 14:24 last year and was arguably slowed down by a pace that was not as ambitious as you would see and the lack of anyone to go after that last lap. She has plenty of speed to kick. But that 14:06 of Gidey just was so far out there that you wonder whether she can really be competitive. I like the talk of world records on her part but you cannot say that the field is going to be like it was in 2019.
