Hi,
I am 33 and have been running for a few years now. I ran my HM PB 1:20:09 in October 2019. Then I took a short break and decided to kick off a new season, with an experienced online coach.
I was following his training plan for the entire year only worsen my HM time by a whole minute! I was running workouts twice a week regulary, and there was also a lot (about 80 percent) of very, very easy running. Average mileage was about 50 mpw.
The workouts leading to the race were mostly long, ladder and short intervals:
5-4-3k, 4 min break, hard efford
2x7x500m hard efford
8k tempo
8x1k, hard efford
18k progressin run.
He wanted me to run the workouts really hard, as he advocates "polarized training".
The problem is, I started feeling a bit worn a few week weeks before the race.
Before I was "coached", I ran mostly long progression runs, tempos and hill reps and it worked for me!
I am now coming back to my old model a is feels way more enjoyable again.
What's your opinion about it?
