What's someone like Hobbs Kessler or Nick Willis doing under Ron?
We have just published a feature by Jonathan Gault on Kessler and Warhurst. In it, we share the final last workout he did before the 3:57.
Warhurst doesn't want to burden Kessler with expectations but admits the obvious, "It looks like he might be the next really good one." Nick Willis compares him to Matthew Centrowitz and Alan Webb.
A sub is required to read it but 100% of subscriptions this week are going to Jonathan in honor of his 30th bday.

Great author, wish he wrote more

There's a book where a full year of Webb's training under Warhurst is spelled out, written by the same author as Running with the Buffalos. I forgot the title but it wasn't Running with the Wolverines.
Running with the Wolverines might have been more interesting, especially if we're talking about the animal and not the mascot.

What’s the workout?
I have to agree. Nick is an extremely down to earth and friendly guy
Any idea how fast they are going on these hills? The perceived pace? 1600 meter pace? 800? 400? As fast as they can clip?

When I ran them, an Arb hill repeat was probably slower than half marathon pace, but the effort was more like 5k-8k effort. Even if I really raced up the hill, I doubt I could run up one time at 5k pace.
Ridgeways felt more like 400 meter repeats, although with less running time. Not sure the exact pace going up... mile race pace, maybe? Probably slower than mile pace, but they felt reasonably quick.
Harvards would feel kind of like the end of an 800 meter race by the time you finished a set of them. Actual pace was probably around 6 minutes/mile (probably a good bit slower than marathon pace for me).
And remember that the hills may be combined with some tempo and/or track work in the same workout. As far as how my intensity on these hills compares with the really fast guys, I imagine sometimes they would run them a little more controlled (I was often the slowest guy in the group as a 4:15ish miler), but other times they would push even harder than than I did.
