Pitt had 5 guys under 4:19. Not too shabby.
Pitt not relevant compared to VT. VT vs UO show in the DMR and outdoor is going to be lit.
Christ, does anyone other than Oregon have this kind of depth at 1500-mile?

UW is probably the next best with 2 freshman under 4 and whoever else on their roster can go sub 4.
Furman 2 and 1 more in Adams (outdoor eligibility).
Bashir the actual goat of Zach’s vids
Iowa State has 5 with outdoor eligibility who can break 4.
I think the thing about Oregon compared to teams like UW and VT is that not only do they have 5+ guys sub-4:00 (hard to keep track nowadays), their top guys are wayyyy under. This is their top 5:
West (outdoor eligibility only) - 3:34 1500, 3:51 mile conversion
Hunter - 3:54 full mile
Teare - 3:55 full mile last year, looks to be in better shape this year
Brown - 3:56 full mile
Hocker - 3:58 full mile last year, but after that 2:49 split and 7:46 closing in 26 you'd have to be a fool to think he's in any worse than 3:55 shape
That's five guys that all should run 3:36 or faster this outdoor season, and West has a really good shot at the collegiate record (his 3:34 times were run in pro meets in Europe, but his 3:36 indoors last year shows he can run fast even in a slower race). Zarate is the only VT guy that I can see hitting 3:36, Washington does have Tanner who ran 3:36 last outdoor, but with Stanovsek gone someone else is gonna have to make some big strides in order to hit those kind of times (Culpepper is the most likely). NAU is a team I haven't seen mentioned yet, but they do have guys like Beamish, Grijalva, Quax who ran 3:39 two years ago and I imagine could go a bit faster now. The truth is though, every year there are teams with multiple guys going under 4:00. It's impressive, but it's not rare. However, it is much rarer to have this many guys going this far under 4:00. Arkansas had a couple teams that were around this level, and Oregon from a few years ago (Wheating, Centro, Acosta era) was on a similar level (Wheating in particular was head and shoulders above the current Oregon squad) but this is still an all-time great squad, and it's no surprise that records are falling (I expect we will see rewriting of the American collegiate records and maybe even some of the overall records, especially the weak 1500 record outdoors).
Iowa state only has 1 who has actually done it. Edwin Kurgat. Iowa is still a better mid distance program
I assume that you are joking. ISU has 1:45-1:46-1:47-1:48-1:49. And after looking at the roster, I think they have 6 guys who can break 4.
True. Nobody is close to Oregon.
The thing is, Oregon can recruit the best talent money can buy. But VT doesn’t come close to recruiting that type of talent. Each of the runners that ran sub 5 for them were essentially built by the program. I think that’s why it is impressive.
Woops I meant sub 4, getting my numbers wrong.
They all have the same 12.6 scholarships. Scholsrships to Notre Dame are worth $80k while one at Oregon is only worth $40k. Oregon has not gotten the best distance recruiting classes for several years. NAU and Notre Dame have been ahead of them.
5 sub 4 in one race at VT with nowhere near the recruiting power of Oregon. Does this mean that the current VT coach is just as good as the guy who went from VT to Oregon?
For the LOVE OF GOD, can we stop saying the "full" mile? What else would it be... the ¾ mile? It's 1600m or mile. Just say what it is...
Not exactly what I mean. I mean Oregon is every little high school boys dream. It’s got history (Steve Prefontaine,Galen Rupp, and Ches to name a few) that high school boys eat up. They have that advantage over all the other schools. Also to them not getting the best recruiting class... that’s ridiculous. You have to have a very good resume to even run for Oregon.
So it is just poor coaching? Oregon was only 6th at NCAA XC last year.
