The outside of my quads are stupid sore after running a hilly route. I could even feel the burn while running. Anybody else get this? Why does it happen?

Happens a lot. Running in a way you are not used to will give you sore quadriceps. I take it you ran hills without doing them for a while. Your body adjusts over time and the soreness goes away.
Eccentric loading of the quads during downhill running does considerable damage to them.
But it felt way more painful going uphill
It means you need to run more hills (carefully).
Running up hill vs down hill uses different muscles. Your uphill muscles don't like it.
Sorry, unless you did a BLEED RUN on the hills, in which case it is to be expected and you don't need to do more of that.
Time to toughen up
D. hills are a b*tch.

would that be on the right or left?
Both. At the same spot. Upper outside of quads.
This is not good.
