Why should I give a sh*t if you get Covid? If you get it, it’s your own fault. I have no desire to live in a world where my life is ruined because of other people’s incompetence

How many jobs will be lost if it doesn't go ahead? How will cancelling it cost the local economy? What affect will it have on the dreams and aspirations of young athletes around the world, from Japan to Kenya?
But yeah, let's cancel it so I can publicly proclaim my virtue and anti-fascist ideals by insisting that the entire population of the world continued to live under government decreed house arrest indefinitely.
In a thread in which the OP doesn't want anyone to actually debate the question.
Jimmio = fascist snowflake.
It makes me feel better to know that your life is "ruined" so there's that.
The Tokyo Olympic won't happen unless they reshift the Olympic Marathon venue to Tokyo. Olympic spirit is feeling sad
Really no reason to be afraid anymore.
IMO the world as a whole should have taken the lump sum back in February and March of 2020. I blame the worthless Italian healthcare system for scaring the world with their slap richard doctors.
I could not care less about the Olympics.
It won't change one thing I do or don't do.
Quite frankly, by the times the games are scheduled we need to give up on all virus control measures and return to real life regardless of where we are at with the virus. The measures are extremely damaging and cannot go on forever. This attitude of continue the hysteria no matter what has to end at some point.
If you can afford to stay at home for the rest of your life and want to, more power to you. I think most people are getting over this and 3 months from now the vast majority of the world will have had enough.
The Olympics are a risky investment for the host country, particularly in the midst of a pandemic. Funny how everyone adamant about proceeding with the Olympics is so quick to tell other countries how to spend their money.

Precisely, acting like tax & spend liberals all of a sudden.

They're the ones who chose to bid on the games.

This cheerleading movement which presupposes that the Tokyo Olympics should take place in 2021 is magical thinking at its finest. How can one espouse this without coming across as wanting to watch one’s Gladiators despite the price in lost lives? How many lost lives would be OK just so you can watch your sporting event? You may assert that this is a false choice but is it? How are you able to know that the vaccines and the alleged magical elixir of summer weather will prove efficacious in transmission mitigation, especially with mutant strains emerging?
Note: I do not want any suppression of the exchange of ideas, but this thread is for those who do NOT want to see the 2021 Tokyo Olympics take place. Please be advised there is another thread for those who disagree.
Stay in your basement, Democrat.

You're lost. Again.

15,846 new COVID deaths globally on Jan. 23rd seems to be a new record, but I guess “it’s all good” now.

Quite frankly, 2.14 million people worldwide have already died from COVID. Let’s not ignore that little detail.
Is it that unreasonable that all athletes, workers, and the limited people attending get vaccinated and maybe create some sort of vr experience for people watching at home?
Imagine still buying the fear agenda. Get over yourself and your love of positive cases.

So by now you have come around to some analytical thinking, because posting a couple paragraphs on the internet always changes peoples minds, and you want to tap the brakes because COVID. That is fair, but do the math. Calculate the risk for the participants, calculate the risk for the host population and staff and balance that against the rewards for all involved...
Well, and don't just calculate the risks, but also look at the riskiest aspects and mitigate them.
11,000 athletes living in close proximity in the athlete's village is too risky? Ok, the Olympics is run over 2 weeks, but each event is over 1 to 4 days, athletes are only allowed access to the village the day before, of, and after their event, now you should never exceed 25% occupancy. Set out sanitizer everywhere. Require masks. Eliminate the cafeteria and replace it with food dropped off directly at each door. Drop off a variety of foods including vegan, kosher, halal foods about double what they could eat, and any special requests beyond that can go figure it out.
Stands full of people are too risky? Fine, one coach only, and only for athletes competing that day. Athletes under 18 can bring one parent as well, athletes over 18 cannot. Small spread out press area only for selected press. Create an official multi camera video feed that can be watched/reported and rebroadcast by any press who was left out, or chooses to report remotely.
Athletes interviews are too risky? Ok, ban them for in person interviews, online and phone interviews only.
Afraid all those athletes will become tourists and wander all over your city? Ok, their visa has restrictions. Break those restrictions and they're deported and lose any medals already earned. Same goes for press on a visa for the games, deportation and a fine.
As an extreme measure, IOC could authorize removing specific sports or events. Ditch wrestling as too risky, ditch judo, move some indoor sports to the outdoors. There is no reason the gymnastics floor routine can't be done under a large shade structure with just some netting sides to prevent too much wind.
It seems very possible to implement and enforced policies that drastically reduce the risk. Will there be some cases spread as a result? Probably. But the tens of thousands of cases likely to be caused by a "no mitigation" Olympics could be reduced to probably dozens if they come up with reasonable rules and give some teeth to the enforcement by way of fines, deportation, and loss of any wins or records.

So divide it up. Every country can send one male and one female athlete for free. Every athlete beyond that costs $xxxx. Japan should shoulder some of the cost, but beyond that, we all pitch in.
There will still be some advertising dollars coming in for it to help as well. If we're still staying home, you'll probably see record viewership, with means record value for advertisers.
Every time you get in your car you risk your life and other people's life.
I don't know who needs to hear this but the purpose of your life is not to live as long and as healthy as possible. The purpose of life is also not to make sure those around you live as long and as healthy as possible.
