I cannot even imagine that kind of cold. That's like Mars basically. I'm a barefoot runner in California.

You would get icicles on your feet. Or maybe you could glue grip to the bottom? I haven't forgotten about that thread, it was my favourite thread ever!

Woah, barefoot, that’s impressive!
01/17/04
1 hour 56 min 34s
-15C stuck with guy ran on two Canadian national teams for half of this

-25C with windchill
2 hours 14 min 2s
2 big loops around a lot of Mill Woods
01/25/03
1 hour 30 min
-22C -30C with windchill
I guess -20 is my limit. However from -15 it is not above the 1 hour-range.
-32 air temps, -60 windchill is my record from a couple years ago. I did an easy hour outside. I love the cold, but I did do short loops close to home to be safe. It was thrilling to hear the trees popping in the woods!! Unfortunately we haven’t been getting any real cold days lately
0 degrees. Real feel can be negative if it's in the single digits. Big fan of the running buff now that it has occurred to me to make it a staple in cold weather regardless of COVID.
Not too many days where it would actually be too cold to run. Don't have a treadmill so just try to tough it out & run easy the handful of days it's like that.
Fellow Bold North guy here. When people ask I saw 0 F because it's easy but I'll keep going out when it's colder as long as it's not a long run or a workout. I never look at windchill though. A fact statistic created by the weather terrorists to make people feel like they live in more extreme conditions.
I've done -20 something with wind chill in the -50s (F) here in Chicago. As long as you're dressed properly (with a mask) there's no reason not to log a few miles. Unless it's icy as others have said.

Finally a guy who gets it, the ”real feel” crowd drives me nuts. If you have invested in quality winter running clothes they should be wind proof

It is -16(feels like -25)Celsius today, I still run. It’s not super comfortable but I don’t feel it is dangerous for my health. What about you guys?
For my USA friends, -16c = 3.2f. And with the wind -25c = -13f
Somewhere around -15° C is where I draw the line, but that happens so rarely that I always end up running. I’m more afraid of icy conditions though, as that represents a more objective risk of injury. Which part of the world do you live in, if I may ask?
I think about -5F is my limit. I can get out there in the teens and single digits and tolerate it. You have to layer properly, windproof jacket, wear warm socks, maybe triple up on the crotch layers, two pairs of gloves/mittens, a face mask, windproof hat, thicker running pants, etc. Windproof stuff in general has been the key for me, as it takes much of the bite out of the wind and retains heat better.
Also I have run in -10F to -15F but that mostly was just to say I got out there and ran when it was that cold. Not much quality happening at those temps. I try to bicycle commute year round (pre covid), so that really preps you for what to expect when running into the negatives.
I hate those 'feels like' things on the weather too. I just want to know the temperature. That's all.

There should just be a running suit that does all of this.
Probably <10 degrees Fahrenheit with my current gear. It hurts my eyes and nostrils to be outside for an extended period below that.
I have a hard time as my body runs hot but also I get poor circulation to my hands and feet. When I wear a jacket even in low temps I tend to overheat and sweat excessively which just ruins everything. Usually I'll wear a warm long sleeve and a vest. The thing about jackets too is that for many years and still to this day they make them too short which leads some to have to layer their crotch immensely. I'd much rather run in 90F than to run in anything sub 30F.
With the moderate temperatures we get where I live, the only thing that stops me running is the risk of slipping and hurting myself. This means I'm not guided by temperature, but by how much ice is around.
For example, today it's +4C with bright sunshine and a stunning day for running, but compacted snow and ice under the trees made my run today really dodgy - I fell once and thankfully just landed in a pressup position, with gloves on, so didn't hurt myself. I do know people who've broken bones slipping on ice and it's taken months to get running again and a year to get back to fitness. I'm not messing with that!
I haven’t found a lower limit yet here in SW Michigan. I seem to get one or two sub-zero (°F) runs per year, and as a rule look forward to them, as they’re usually still mornings with clear skies. Really beautiful, and runs with temps in the teens but high winds and/or blowing snow can feel much, MUCH colder.
Generally it’s road conditions that get dangerous more than the cold. I went out in single digits, but a -30°F windchill one time. I was dressed fine, but the wind gusts made for whiteout conditions. I almost got creamed by a pickup truck coming around a corner near my office because neither of us could see - that particular run I cut short because I didn’t feel safe being on the streets.

I’m in Edmonton, Canada. North of the 53 parallel.
The cold air itself on my body is not what bothers me really, I’ve invested in good clothing. It’s the cold air in my lungs that makes it strange for me. It always feel like I can not take deeper breaths and my heart rate goes up. It’s just a strange feeling.
