With the advent of cheaters shoes, is cross country now the only TRUE test of running?
How say u?

I'd agree.
What are cheater shoes? Are they shoes that some competitors use to cheat but the other competitors cannot use them? Is there a way to test someone's shoes to determine if they are cheater shoes or not?

Even more reason to be in the Olympics?
Even more reason for Worlds to be held annually?
Probably throw in trail(has to be case by case bases though depending on how technical the trail is) and mountain running into that. Try using bouncy shoes in mud or on technical terrain.

I think the steeple should be CC in the Olympics, along with a short and long CC race. Something similar to when Paavo Nurmi was winning everything.
Then have a 3000m race without hurdles for men and women.
Won't lose as many great HS (junior) distance runners that way, giving them time to develop.
I think there should be a world championship for CC and track every year, with the Olympics being that championship every 4 years.

Barefoot on grass is supposed to be the fastest.
Shoes were minimal to replicate that as closely as possible, and there used to be grass tracks.
So, I can believe that current technology allows for sufficient modeling of the forces and reactions of the foot on grass and also with each shoe design on different surfaces.
If the sport went back to grass tracks, the cheater shoes would hardly sell, because the carbon-plate and extra spring that were an asset on the track become a liability. Even worse for the shoes for road races if long races went back being on grass (or trails).
It's always been...
Here's a weird analogy:
It's like I like trucks... I don't care if a car has 800 hp... doesn't do anything for me.
If it was a 800 hp semi truck, then that's different... it does do something for me, because it's useful.
It's like some of my non-running friends have no clue, they think track is XC... it bothers me and sometimes offends me...
Do we think they timed the ancient Olympics, Times and distance are meaningless on any surface. What matters is winning. As Vin Diesel said it doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or by a mile. Winning is winning. Racing is about winning. These super shoes, super tracks. super courses, pacing lights are all just smoke and mirrors to distract from what matters. Winning

Winning is short term thinking and only serves that individual. Running for time and distance is for the advancement of all mankind. People that like sit n kick races are selfish and people that like record attempts are selfless.
Yea, it is. The shoes are causing too much distortion in time and competition on the roads and track. XC removes most of the shoes advantages from the race. No special shoes, no pacers, no pancake flat course that ends with the wind at your back. It's the only true race left.
This is complete nonsense. Anyone going after a record is doing it for themselves and maybe their family, but still mostly just themselves. This isn’t for the advancement of humankind. Humankind doesn’t benefit from someone running a little faster. Winning is all that matters in life.
What about mountain running?

This gave me an idea for an event. You all run, and whoever is in the lead wins when the starter sounds the gun again. However, you don't know how long the race is going to be!

Was lucky to be at world xc in Aarhus saw Cheptigai win a brilliant race. Watched Oberi win the women's saw Dominique Scott have be helped from the course. Jakob Ingebristen finish 9th in the junior field.
Saw the bowerman ladies totally unprepared. Yes in 2019 it was the event of the year as everyone was exposed and there were no super shoes to be seen.
Let's hope wxc happens in 2022 in Australia
The Vaporflys definitely had a huge impact on the roads, but the dragonfly and new over engineered victory do not seem to have as crazy of an impact as the other shoes. I think Track is still pure because you have guys winning with all types of shoes, while the roads is tough because super shoes seem to dominate now. You

The question has to be asked if Cheptegei would have broken the 5k/10k records without the Dragonfly spikes or whatever they are called. Like if he just threw on an old pair of Zoom Matumbos, would he still have broken the record?
Of course we can drone on about technological progress and innovation but if the progress isn't equitable and available to all, it creates competitive advantages. A pair of shoes only available to some runners is not the same as a faster track or marathon course available to all runners in the race.
I think that was mainly due to the wave light pacing. That is what I consider to be the biggest advantage he had in order to break the world record. If anything is mechanical doping it has to be that. The easiest way to run any time in racing is to even split the race. Other then the 800 every distance race is made to even split. It is almost impossible to even split a race on your own though, humans can only be so accurate. During the 5k wr Josh’s splits were near dead even which made it physically easier on his body to run the WR. If Bekele had wave light pacing I think he would’ve run much faster. This could be a potential problem 10-15 years from now. Imagine a local high school meet with a wave light that just pulls runners to a time. I really do not see how the wave light is any different then running on a treadmill.
