There are 20 others just like this and you take it like its legit?
I seriously want help.
Hence:
a) "lacking in duration". You're running 1.6 miles a day at that pace/duration, and 4-5 days a week? You get 6-8 mpw total which is really nothing.
b)" not even thinking about heart rate/pace". Just run.

The issue is if I do run at a pace that is low effort, it will end up being the equivalent of 12 minute/mile, which won't stimulate my body.

I would to love longer if I didn't have issues with injuries.

And we're back to our quick, no effort, one liner excuse responses.
See a PT, find a club/coach, make investments/commitments so you can get advice on how to work around your supposed problems (you haven't seen a specialist for any injuries other than your stress fracture so we don't even know if you're actually injured)
We already know how the conversation will progress.
"I have no money" - find a part-time job.
which will lead to:
"I have no time to work" - you say you spend all your time on youtube/letsrun/reddit. Less internet time, more productive time.
which will lead to:
"College is hard" - well you need better time management skills.
which will lead to:
"You went to a bad university so you don't know how hard UCLA is"
rinse and repeat.
You are simply not cut out to ever be more than a recreational runner. That being the case, if running gives you no pleasure, it's time to move on.

How do you know whether or not I have talent? I could break 4 in the mile one day

Do you really think that it's realistic for you to join a club that less than 600 people have joined in the last 6 decades, given that 10 minute miles are a moderate/hard effort for you?
We at the very least know you have no real will to make a commitment to running, so whether or not you have talent is quite irrelevant.

No, you can't. You just shared your PRs. You would not make the girl's team at the majority of high schools. Talent is fixed. Conditioning is not. Run for fun or not at all. You asked for serious. There it is.

Congrats, you just triggered his self-pity mode. He'll now complain about his poor genetics and not being born from the right mom.

I never lie to my athletes. They seem to like me in spite of the fact that I'm a grumpy old bast#rd.

But track teams in high schools don't have tryouts

No issue with honesty. My HS coach knew how to interact with each athlete and their goals depending on their abilities, and was well-liked.
It's just that you gave david45 a nice conversation-derailer to keep the thread going so he can get more attention.

Of course he is, and he's good at what he does. That's just not running. Get a load of this stuff. Future 4-minute miler now.

Yes, they do. You would get cut immediately. If you want someone to blow smoke up your butt, I'm not your guy. Life is not fair and you possess minimal talent. Run for fun or not at all.
David45, I think that you should join an adult running group with a coach with experience with getting runners of all types to distance running. Likely, there will be experienced pace group leaders who can walk through the running process and tiptoe you through the buildup process. There is no guarantee that you wont get injured, but you really need focused coaching and not a grab bag of coaching advice. I won’t you to succeed, but there can really be a lot of overwhelming advice which seems not to be helping you. However keep getting after it. You are still young and have plenty of life to develop into a runner.

they do, but only hot guys make the cut

Genetics matter for breaking the 4 minute mile barrier

ahahahahaha see? You derailed the conversation.
Dear David,
I mean this from the bottom of my heart.
I believe you need 3/5 of the following points to be a better than average runner, 4/5 of the following points to be a national class runner, and 5/5 of the following points to be world class (think a sub 4 mile)
-Good genetics, meaning good muscle fiber balance and a naturally strong Vo2Max system.
-A good healthy diet and sleep schedule
- A strong “whatever it takes” attitude
-Good, consistent training
-High Pain tolerance
David, I mean this with all of the love in my heart. But you’d score a 0/5 on this test if taken today.
I don’t even give myself the genetics point, and I could run a 6:30 mile with 0 training as an overweight pre pubescent 13 year old.
Obviously you can change David, I started out my running journey with a 30:36 5k. I slowly worked on developing the skills that a person can change and 5 years later I’m getting ready run sub 15:30 in the 5k.
David, as a 19 year old you don’t have enough time to get your mile time under 4 minutes. Can you even run at sub 4 pace for a 100m right now?
Focus on fixing your attitude, get your body strong, eat better, find better daily habits, and (pardon my language) stop being a little b!tch.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
