Kind of reminds me of reminds me of the PH saga a couple of months ago. Some people actually got mad at PH for doing the right thing because they had to remove millions of videos in the process of examination.
Sec. 230 gives Twitter immunity from this lawsuit. Victims of child pornography have filed the identical lawsuit against ISPs alleging that they informed the ISPs of the content and the ISPs refused to block it. Courts have consistently held that ISPs have no liability because of sec 230 and have dismissed the lawsuits.
Twitter will never get rid of adult content. Tumblr did that and it destroyed them.
Can we just purge Twitter entirely? It’s the only social media I don’t use (besides Tik ToK cause I’m too old and uncool for that).
Twitter is the most pointless of all social media apps. No surprise it was beloved by Trump—140 characters is just long enough to write something asinine and emotion-inciting with no depth

Shammy! What is this PH you speak of? 🤔
Twitter doesn't remove child porn and rampant bullying yet has an incredibly strict lockdown on any anti vaccine rhetoric. Shows you where their priorities are and that they are paid off by big pharma and the government to control the narrative. Time to wake up.
While I think this is a fair comparison on the surface level, I don’t think Twitter and Tumblr are facing this problem in the same context.
Tumblr, before they got rid of the porn, was predominantly less-normative and more kink-heavy in terms of content; and it also had a significantly larger amount of its content that was adult in nature. Tumblr stated in a few places as well that they did not anticipate that the extreme severity of backlash from the userbase would be as thorough as it was in reaction to the removal of adult content.
Twitter is more than just porn. Their content and traffic is not driven in a majority share by porn or porn-affiliated content. Twitter is also a significantly larger site now than tumblr was before they got rid of porn.
Most distinctly: Tumblr took a uniquely severe and audible approach in regards to restricting user activity from 2015-2019. Most of what Twitter has done in regards to policing on the platform has been fairly in step with peer platforms (about a half step more restrictive than Facebook and a full step less than YouTube). Tumblr saw a long-term decline in user traffic that was out of line with industry norms for years before they removed porn entirely.
Recently - OnlyFans tried to pivot away from hardcore content to make it onto the apple App Store and secure more native advertising accounts. They saw a similar reaction to their attempted restriction as the Tumblr community reacted in 2019. They withdrew because they perceived it to be a bad business decision.
I’ve personally never seen the point of using a personal social media network account for consulting porn on the internet. There are plenty of free places to do it that don’t leave a trace and don’t install keyloggers onto your computer. “Sharing/seeking out like minded people with similar interests” isn’t something I thought was done normally outside the voyeur community (lol @ Ted Cruz), but as the kids say “go off” I suppose.
Communications media has been sexualized since like the third carrier pigeon message. Heck I can easily imagine some Stone Age farmer with sheep shearing some more-forward anatomical depictions into the side of a sheep and sending it to his honey the town over. I can also easily imagine dropping some SJW into a hut along the way, and some purple-haired blob person getting existentially offended at the sight of a poorly-executed innuendo in keratin.
Bottom line: Twitter has chosen to moderate their content. As of writing this, social media platforms are still private companies. I would assume that if they’re leaving the reported content up (like the racist and misogynistic stuff the brojos leave up on the regular), that they also understand that likes private business hanging a cross over their door - they’re co-signing the content. It’s not a public service like tornado sirens or roads, and whether or not it should be is probably another conversation - but let’s not pretend like anyone is actually practicing free speech. It’s a privately moderated public bulletin board, and for the time being Twitter has devoted a corner of that cork to porn. I’m certainly not mad at it, but then again I’ve been banned from the platform twice now
Clarification - not mad at normal porn. The stuff that violates law (cheese pizza, revenge porn, etc) is very obviously unacceptable. My apologies if there’s any confusion
You idiot, it hasn't been limited to 140 characters for several years now. And Twitter is the best social media for disseminating breaking news, sports, immediate opinion, etc. It definitely has it's place in the social media landscape.

Um, what?

What? Twitter is great if you use it the right way. I only use it to get breaking news on some niche things like leaders in my field of work, my favorite sports team, and a few of my hobbies. I get instant news and insights about things that are important to me.
I would never follow a politician. Or anyone who posts frivolously. Don't waste my time.
