Can anyone suggest an alternative to gels for long runs and marathon races?
I'm looking for something solid or semi solid, which could be eaten and digested fairly easily at sub 3 marathon paces.
I realise nothing will go down as easy as a gel, but I'm hoping to find a middle ground between quick energy and something that feels just a little more 'substantial'.
I've always used gels in the past, but after 1 or 2 I really get put off. They are too sticky and over-sweet, and I find I don't feel great after the run when I take them. I tolerate them as a necessary evil for the race, but I find myself avoiding them in training, even though I know my body needs something on long runs once I get to 2hr+
