The 16th of January five Danes ran under 8 minutes for the 3k - including 16 year old Axel Vang (7.59,30) and 17 year old Joel Ibler (7.57,39). Axel ran 1 second faster than Jakob Ingebrigtsen at that age and Joel ran 1 second too slow. Crazy stuff.

Great stuff, but I doubt they broke Jakob's EU record because Norway (and Jakob) isn't in the EU.
Norway is still a European country. So they still compete at the European Championships and stuff.
Agreed but you did say EU. You probably meant just shorthand for Euro or European, but given that the Ingebrigtsens are not EU citizens, and Britain just left the EU after a five year debate as to the difference between the EU and Europe, it's best to be clear.
Incidentally, it's funny that the Ingebrigtsens, Warholm, Jake Wightman, Josh Kerr, Charlie Grice, Rowden etc, and Julien Wanders, all come from the three European countries not in the EU.
If you had a EU vs Rest of Europe athletics meet this year, the non EU team would clean up, despite having 1/8th of the population.

Correcting other people, while having no clue what constitutes Europe!
Or where does people from
Iceland,
Serbia,
North Macedonia,
Montenegro,
Bosnia
Kosovo,
Moldova,
Belarus,
Ukraine come from?
Not even mentioning places like Turkey & Russia...
(as that's a matter of defintion)
As far as European Championships go: Israel compete in all sports I can think of..
Armenia and Azerbaijan too
Even Georgia and Kazakstan in some..
I wouldn't say any of these last 5 are european, but I am sure you get my point Coevett.
Saying Europe is EU + Gb, Sui and Nor is always wrong...

Oh and if you want rest of Europe to clean up in athletics, you definately want some of those European countries, as GB, SUI and Nor are really quite hopeless in the field events...
Oh, and what about women?
Sure, UK probably has the biggest depth in Europe, but not much help from the other two countries there..
Other than that I am sure your point is very valid.. :)

Yes, I forgot about all the European champions and record holders from Iceland, Bosnia, and the Vatican. I stand corrected and admit I have once again revealed my profound ignorance. :D
Well there is Amel Tuka I guess....
you forgot about women and field events too...

What about Koko, Krause, Hassan, kzszczot, lewandowski, Bosse? They’ve got a few more global medals than all those guys combined... not to mention Mechaal, Berglund, Crippa, Holusa, who are all in the same league as the likes of Kerr and O’Hare
The point is, your “fact” was wrong and a stupid point anyway.
Well anyway the EUROPEAN record then was broken. In mid January. By a whole second. It is not impossible for him to go 7:55 this outdoor season. But we'll see.

I've not forgotten these athletes.
I assume you meant to answer coevett..

WHO CARES, it's Europe.
Joel is going to take the Ingebrigtsen record tonight, watch it..
Not from The Vatican.
Ingebrigtsen was a step beyond these guys at 16 and 17 in any case. Jakob ran 3:39.92 1500m and a 3:56 mile at 16 and 3:31.18 and a 3:52 mile at 17. He also ran 13:35 and 13:17 at 16 and 17. Even 13:35 is arguably superior to 7:57-59, but it's debatable. 13:17 is worth more like 7:44-45. It's true that he ran only 8:00.01 just before his 17th birthday, but it was run easy just to win while running multiple events, I take it, and then he didn't run 3k again until 2020 (7:27.05). But I have to say that I am very impressed by the level that they have achieved. I think I recall the 16 year old running a fine 10k in the last couple years. Denmark has really been developing its distance runners well recently.

Agree. Ingebrigtsen had some much better 1500m times, but still, it's impressive from these two danes to come close and even beat his 3000m age records.
Axel took the World best youth (i think it was 14y) 10.000m record (2019). And he has the 3000m steeple World record (15y) too. and 5.000m (15y). + a ton of European records. Watch out.
