Because the course goes through the Univ of IL, the governor, known as "Gov PigFace" said "no".
If anything, this lardass should be emphasizing exercise and he himself should start. . . but that won't happen with this clown.

Postponed until fall with a likely race date of 9/10 or 9/11. Drama Queen, much?
If that's the only hold up, can't they just reroute the race?
Sept will never happen. Terrible politics in Illinois, worthless governor who just this week took Federal funds earmarked for small businesses and applied it instead to the state operating budget, coupled with the UofI athletic department that doesn't like this race. Well put on race but it's done.

Weren't all these races postponed last year? I'd say less than 5% chance this event happens in the Fall
IL was the number one moved-out-of-state in 2020. It also takes the prize for being the state that lost the most residents in the last decade, as well as a state that bucks traditional real estate bubbles, with many million+ dollar homes in upscale Chicago suburbs selling recently for a couple hundred thousand LESS than their late 90s and early 2000s sale prices.
TLDR, IL tax base is leaving, real estate suffering

It would be hard to re-route. Champaign-Urbana are pushed up against each other, with the university campus stretching pretty much the whole way in between. You'd have to go really far south or north to avoid it, if it's even possible.
