Hi Dan, I'm downtown. Whatever ward that is. Thanks for bringing up this important civic issue.
This nonsense (the ward names) was an undemocratic deciison and essentially a fraud on the taxpayers of Edmonton.
It was done to promote aboriginal heritage, which I do not believe is a bad thing, however, I absolutely do object to the use of taxdollars to re-name the wards without public consultation.
As an example, this is my proposed name in renaming the city of Edmonton:
aslfidhawklf-q3awef8a0w9eaw09e8f908BHHHf0a9e8sf09a8wge98WHHWHWHWHHW
Ok, you see my point?
It's nonsense. I believe $150k was the cost for this decision. I could be wrong, it might have been $30k, but, it is absolutely a complete waste of money in every sense of the word.
Tens of thousands was spent for an OPINION to rename a ward. I and other Edmontonians were not consulted, nor were we offered funds for our opinions.
This is also known as fraud and an example of Don Iveson's desire to bend to an ethnic group, those being aboriginal peoples.
Recognizing the cultural demographics that live in Edmonton, approximately 5% are aboriginal.
By this logic, maybe 1 ward name is renamed. I do not recognize these ward name changes and also do not recognize the 'Edmonton Football Club.
They'll alwaysbe the Edmonton Eskimos to me.
As it stands, the funds to re-name the ward name changes have not been reovered, nor has Edmonton's mayor faced any challenges to this criminal (as far as I'm concerned) decision.
