If you watch the video entirely you can see that I said I did try. It's heavy. You wanna try?

Sorry, am just kidding around. Just locker room talk
Trash looks bad, but provides great habitat for rodents anf snakes!
And windy prairies always have dense trash accumulation in the coulees.
By the way, it doesn't take much slicing to cut up a matress and put the stuffing in the trash can or dumpster.
And people who dump their Xmas trees along the road side never figure out that they can just cut the branches off and chop the trunk into shorter segments for trash removal.
Forget the political career dude. No one in Edmonton will vote for you after your bat sh*t crazy talk of removing the arches on the Walter Dale bridge. No one will ever take you seriously ever again. You’re done.
MEGA!
Vote for Greg!
No one in the US has given a flying rip about litter since that stupid Indian campaign in the 70s. It's such a non-issue: if you don't like it, don't look at it. Easy peasy, Japanesey.

I know for a fact that my friend Walter Dale was pretty upset.

He can't. Greg is out of breath already.

It's a 140 something steps flight of stairs that I went up quickly. It was the first excercise I did today. Then I did a 4.5 mile run and then a 4 mile walk. You'd probably be puffing if you went up the stairs too unless you were super super fit.
I wouldn't say that I am super fit. But I am a runner and I can get up some stairs without huffing and puffing. If you can run a couple of hours you can get up some stairs easily.

Make Edmonton Greg‘s Again
Greg, have you considered cleaning up your grammar and spelling first, then working on the litter issue? This way, more people would take you seriously and you might be more effective.

Donnow wut yore tawking bowt.
Greg, on the Mayor thing, if you were really serious about this you should consider expanding your resume, reaching out in regard to social issues, and building some connections. Volunteer for some groups you have an affinity for. Become active in local politics. Attend City council meetings. Look at it as a position you need to earn with experience and connections. SO build those gradually and you may find some valuable experiences that prepare you for the job, or perhaps for some other opportunities you can't even see from where you are today.
Good luck.
If there's one thing i've learned, it's that good things come to those who've set the way for them to happen.

Thanks. I don't really think I would do it. Can' t rule it out completely but ultimately I don't think I'd win because I'm not well known enough.
You suggest volunteering.. Hmm.. I am not anti social nor do I dislike volunteer groups, but, I can honestly say nothing jumps out at me as being a worthy pursuit. Looking at the city website, there's only one real initiative that is volunteer based that I would consider (it's called capital city clean up, it's geared towards cleaning up the trash around the city).
Yet my train of thought is 'ok, you want me to volunteer my time to pick up trash in the city.'
What do I gain from that? Ok, the small satisfaction I've picked up some litter. Does it really stop peoples behavior from littering? No it doesn't.
Do I make connections picking up trash? Nope, it's a solitary endeavour.
Does Joe shmoe care that I dedicated 5 hours/week to pick up litter over the last few months and am looking for his vote? Nope, he probably doesn't, nor do I care enough to want to boast about this expeirence if I actually partook in it.
Ultimately, I think I am smart enough to be the mayor. In that I can read English and my mind is sound enough to make decisions that will not bankrupt the city. My mind is sound enough to know that I have to approach decisions with maturity and take things seriously and listen to the community.
I already know this about myself.
You suggest sitting in on a council meeting. Not possible as far as I know. I can go to city hall and address an issue if I wish. I went once a few years ago.
Look, if you lived below the poverty line, you'd think about giving your time away for free and the likelihood of it paying off and probably conclude it isn't worth it.
There's only one volunteer initiative through the city that I find to be of value yet I know my contribution in picking up litter will not solve the overall issue. That's just common sense.
One thing I did earlier this evening however is that I partook in a community video chat on Zoom, I was able to speak to a city councillor about a few of my concerns. So that is a step.
But realistically, I am just not interested in being mayor enough to do the little things you might have to do to win. I can't pretend I'm interested in attending a boring event or meeting when I'm not.
If there were events aorund the city where I felt I could contribute and make a difference, I would consder them. Considerng I've lived in Edmonton 33+ years of my 36 years of living, I feel I am aware enough of the oppotunities out there.
My old man did a TON of volunteer and community work in his 40's. He did it for 10 years until he retired from all that stuff. It was impossible to call my childhood home in the evening when I was a kid because my dad was on the phone talking to people. He felt he did good in the community.
For all of it he never earned a dime. If he had considered civic politics he would have probably had a shot. He was president of all of the community leagues in a large part of the city. But he never did.
I care ultiamtely about getting 100 signatures.
That's what I care about. I have to see my barber soon, maybe tomorrow.
He remembers me because I've gone to him for over a year.
Maybe I'll ask him to sign for me. Then I have 2/100 needed signatures.
Get 100 signatures, pay $500 deposit, then I'm on the ballot.
That's all it takes is 100 signatures and $500 deposit.
Yeah, i was thinking of things like hooking up with some social activist causes, or volunteering with a political party in your town, or something like that. Not just litter patrol, but something that could give you a background in local politics and issues.
Your dad sounded like a very upstanding guy, btw.
And i've said this to you before and i will say it again, at the risk of repeating myself: how about taking some small steps towards building employment opportunity in an area that interests you. If it's politics, how about a class at the community college in a related subject? Or even some boring stuff that might build job prospects....
Just from my experience, there's no moral booster like working towards some larger goal, even in small steps.
Just some things to consider.

Ok thnaks for the perspective. My dad worked really hard in his life, did ok everything considered. He was born in the middle of a 13 child family. Ukrainian. My grandpa (his dad) who I met when I was young apparently was a volatile alchoholic.
My dad was the only one in the family to go to university, got 2 bachelor degrees, was a teacher and ultimately got an ok paying government job. Did a lot of volunteer work.
He was a defensive back in high school but was cut from the team his grade 10 year, the final cut he said. He ran a 5:20 mile in grade 10, no training and the best cross country runner in his high school for his age.
He really liked football, most of my unlces did. He also couldn't play bantam (the level before high school) football because his family couldn't afford the $7 team fee. He was always bitter about that. This was in the 1960's.
