Some of you may have seen my posts before - I was planning on doing a Half Marathon in May or June this year and aiming for a HM time of around 85 mins (I have previously done just under 90 mins) and then a sub-3 marathon in 2022. 34 year old female, long training history but only averaging 25-30 mpw previously.
The half marathons I was looking at doing have already been postponed until September or October. Here in the UK we are still in lockdown until probably mid March at the earliest, so no races or training with club mates. Haven't been able to find a local race since February last year due to Covid.
Over the last few months I have gone from doing about 30 miles a week to doing 50 in prep for the above. I was about to embark on a half plan but this now seems silly? Especially as I don't feel I have quite got used to the 50 mpw yet - it has been a big change for me and has been quite fatiguing. I know a lot of people rightly advocate keeping speedwork in base phase but I dropped a lot of it while increasing my miles as I had injuries in the past. I'm really happy to have had no further injuries but I am now (unsurprisingly) a bit stale on the speed-side so maybe should address this now.
Any ideas about what to focus on now I have a slightly bigger aerobic base - what do I do with it with no races on the horizon?! Hills? Tempos? Feeling a bit lost, any helpful input welcome. I imagine a few people are in the same boat with the cancelled and postponed races?! Thanks.
