I tried this in a different post, but only got some helpful, but vague responses. Hopefully, LetsRun users can work their magic and help me out here!
Bio: I am a freshman XC runner, and am looking to improve my 5K time. I PR'd off about 25 mpw with a 21:46 about halfway through the season, before a minor injury cut my season short. I want to run a sub 19 minute 5K next season, and I have 20 weeks left until summer XC practices start. With about 10 weeks of this, I potentially have 30 weeks to train before the first race. For the past couple of months I have been building from 20 miles (due to injury, I wanted to start slow) up to 30 miles. However, I wanted to reach 40 miles, but got bored from only easy miles. Due to lack of motivation, I haven't run for the past week. I am looking to prove everyone wrong, because nobody thinks I can run sub 19.
Current PR's
1. 5K - 21:46 (XC season freshman year PR - mid September, I do remember my 2 mile marker was 13:54)
2. 1600m - 6:35.4 (11/9/21 time trial, without any prior speed training)
Can anyone give me an outline of what to do for the NEXT 18 WEEKS (I am going to take two weeks off before XC summer practices start to enter refreshed and rested)? I've been told increasing mileage from 20-50, and also adding speed training? I can run for about an hour at most every day after school. On the weekends, I can run as much as possible, but obviously I don't want to get injured. Thanks in advance!
