I find it odd that so many posters on this thread who have lived in DC have NOT mentioned the lovely crime rate. I worked on the Hill in my 20s and lived in the District (not out in the burbs). Got tired of not being able to go out my door at night without risking life/limb. I GTF outta there and moved to Boston. Much more civil place.
Grammar???
No , I meant Traffic but was posting on my phone

Why u such a beta ?
Betas don't live in the District; they live in Silver Spring, Alexandria, et al.

The gunshots provide good motivation for fartleks. I don't need to go by time or distance, just use the sounds of the streets to gauge my effort.
Honestly Denver is not worth the brain damage. It is a sweet place to live if you’re spending Tuesday drawing from great grandpa’s trust fund mountain biking or skiing trails that are 2 hrs west or town. Forget about doing this on the weekends- the weekend day trip is over in Denver. The state has been invaded by people from the coasts with a crap ton of equity so the housing market is burned beyond recognition. Plus the coast people all depart their crappy leftest enclaves because of highly races and government incompetence, only to immediately try and change our state into Eastern CA. I hear Austin is the place to go for east coast transplants. CO is full man.
Idk a lot of dude bros, quasi-outdoorsies I know want to move to Denver. Lots of normies in mid-late 20s that want a change of pace. Other than that, I know nothing about Denver besides what I've read online.
Therefore, I would do the opposite and not move to Denver.

Never, ever.

Nope, but spent a lot of time within the DMV on business and spent a fair amount of time in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh has a vibrant university and cultural life, is close to all sorts of outdoor and sports activities, is affordable, is diverse (whatever that really means, but in my book includes diversity of thought), and has real people, not just posers and pretenders.
Good points

Not true. DC is unique among all cities in the US regarding EDUCATION...that is the only point I was making, so your other things in the list have no bearing on what I said. Yes I've been to Boston. ALL cities have educated people, but DC has more and more with advanced degrees. Just not comparable to any city in the country in that regard.
In DC they have advanced degrees in law and political science so they can f**k you over. They are power hungry. I'd rather be friends with a truck driver than a lawyer or a politician.
+1 everyone I've met who lives in DC is a sociopath

Then you haven't met enough people there.

This. Flagpole is more comfortable around other narcissistic, condescending, pseudo-intellectuals so he is biased.
Not sure where the pseudo-intellectuals comes from. Most of my friends happen to have advanced degrees, because my wife and I met many of them in graduate school, or we had jobs with them later, and those in our work and peer group have advanced degrees. My wife has two -- one from Stanford and one from the University of Michigan. I have one. Every person in my family and extended family (on my side) has an advanced degree...Ph.D., MA, MS, MD, JD. These are not pseudo-intellectuals. They are intellectuals. Lawyers, research scientists, doctors, chemical engineers. I don't have one friend who doesn't at least have a bachelor's degree. I don't exclude those who don't, but we just aren't in the same circles. Even all the bands I've been in were filled with lawyers and college professors and doctors.
Sorry, but they are intellectuals.

Regarding Flagpole's comments about DC - I think that DC is to intelligence as NY is to style and money or LA is to celebrity. Being smart here is just valued in a way that it's not in those cities.
CORRECT! Valued and necessary for the majority of the non-service jobs in DC and the surrounding area. My brother has a Ph.D. and a JD, and he works on drug patents. So, WHY is his office in the DC area? The United States Patent and Trademark Office headquarters is in Alexandria, VA.
please stay away from this beautiful state that has had its culture and politics hijacked from liberal californians and east coast limousine liberals fleeing the messes they created in their respective areas.
At a minimum if you move here, don't vote in higher taxes(like DC area) higher regulation(like DC area) and stricter gun laws(like DC area).
Theres a reason why people with ny and california license plates get their tires slashed here all the time (srs).
Driving around with a cali plate in Idaho Colorado or Montana is akin to having a trump bumper sticker and parking somewhere in sf.

Having formerly lived in DC, I will tell you that there is no other city in the US like it, so moving away from there means a big change no matter where you go. Not only is DC diverse in just about all ways, it is filled with highly-educated people that you just will not find in so concentrated a way in any other city. So, if moving away from DC, you have to accept as a given that your life will be very different.
It is a fairly educated city, in some metrics it is near (nut not at) the top. So you're not right about that, DC is not the most concentrated in highly educated people.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-08-23/ranking-america-s-most-educated-citieshttps://wallethub.com/edu/e/most-and-least-educated-cities/6656As far as DC being diverse, I guess that depends on what you mean by diverse. It isn't anywhere near the most diverse city in terms of racial breakdown.
If what you mean by diverse you mean "a mixture of people from all parts of the country," regions in Florida are well above DC in diversity.
If what you mean by diversity is "people from all over the country plus other countries," then L.A. area and SF area and SJ/SC areas of California are all well beyond DC in diversity.
So unless you have another definition, you're off on that one as well.
Lived near DC. Worked @ GW in DC. Live in a nearby altitude state to CO. Best decision ever made. F*ck the east coast.
Thoughts: Tons of people moving to Denver and Colorado in general, especially from the left and right coasts for pretty much the same reasons as you. You'll be fine with acclimating with a job and friends.
Colorado is the next gen state now that is way ahead at policy and thinking than every other state. For example, it was the first state to use legal weed revenue to fund education. That's just the beginning. Even Californians are leaving their state in drove and headed for CO.
"Even Californians are leaving their state in drove and headed for CO."
Boom! Reason #1 for why not to move to CO.
I grew up/live in DC. I had a roommate for a couple of years who sounds identical to you. One day, his office said, "Move anywhere you want." He decided to move to a suburb outside of Denver. He's dated more there in a year than he did the whole time with me, makes mad bank, and goes snowboarding/hiking/cycling every day. You will find more women out there who have your interests than you will in DC. There is a reason why DC has the highest percentage of single women, and that's because a lot of them are career-oriented and will choose their job over you nine times out of ten. BUY THE TICKET. TAKE THE RIDE.
