He said he wanted to run 3:33 and sub 13 this year and I thought was a huge reach, but after how relaxed he looked in this workout I'm thinking that it may be a possibility after all.

In 2017 he ran 3:56mile/13:16. I am sure he is thinking he is over do for a big break through to the low 13s now that he is a pro.
These high volumes at slower paces definitely seems to be a trend versus these days versus the 90s when you would run like 3-4x1 mile at 5k pace:) People still do those 5k workouts but it seems like they do a lot fewer of them. This one where you alternate miles with a set of 400s is an interesting way to get a lot of work in without it being too insanely stressful.

There is very little relationship between the session on that video and any sort of prognostication of 5km and certainly not 1500 fitness. That session is just building the foundation for the real work to be done this spring and summer. Everyone needs to keep their shorts on.

this doesn't seem that crazy. his first 1600 was about his tempo pace or even slower. 400s at 10k pace to start is super easy as well.
even at the end, his 1600 was roughly 5k pace or a little slower, and the 400s were 3k pace.
it's just a lot of volume...
Yeah this was my take as well. I don't think he would look at this as a particularly hard/special workout, it's just working on turnover during the early part of a training cycle.
Klecker's workouts have been much more impressive - particularly his workout this weekend with the 800's getting down close to 2:00.

a 14:40 runner can pretty easily do the first 3 sets. Last set is the only impressive part but I think any sub 14 runner should be able to do it. Just proves how slow most of letsrun is that they are so impressed with this.
I'll bite. 14'40 guy (2'56"/km) which is around 8'30" 3k (2'50"/km). so the guy runs 3x1600m faster than his 5k PR and 12x400 (first three sets) at 64/65 (2'40"+/km). You think this 14'40 guy can he do all that volume at that effort?
Man i feel for the underachievers you "coach"....
He's also doing this workout in between 100 mile weeks, so yeah, it's pretty damn impressive. His fitness is gearing up and he should run very well this season.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?

Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
