This is very common in the pro running world and is nothing peculiar to Rupp. The thought is that training methods are a secret formula and that any discussion of training gives your opponent an insight into your strengths and weaknesses that gives them an advantage in competition.
I know he is often criticized here on these forums, but one thing that is good about Tinman is that he doesn't keep any secrets from anyone.
He fully publicizes his training methods/system, talks about them in each interview, and shares his knowledge with the running community. His team, TME have public Strava profiles for anyone to follow and watch. Nothing is hidden there.
The same is of course also true for other coaches who share their training philosophies, like Jack Daniels, Canova, etc. Really wish more coaches would do that, and understand that publicizing their philosophies is not gonna make the average 16 min 5k guy threaten their 12:50 runner in a race, or even allow a 13:30 guy to suddenly beat the 12:50 guy.
