5:00 is about average. If you are a new runner you should try to get faster.
Average for an untrained male age 18-45 with an average income of $65,000.
If you ran that straight off the couch you might have a little talent.
You won’t find great answers on letsrun.
For me, the 5:00 barrier was the threshold between fast and average, and I think it was the same with the rest of my highschool team.
In my opinion the respectable time barriers are:
2:15 800m
5:00 1600m
10:45 3200m
18:00 5k

Kinda funny how those times progressively got less impressive
If you are male: No
If you are female: Yes

In most high schools, about 10 to 40 guys I would say are sub-2:15 capable with one track season. I would say in most high schools, about 10 to 15 guys are sub-18 5K XC capable. Fewer guys capable of sub-5 1600m & sub-10:45 3200m. I would say one female every three years per high school are capable of those performances. There are wide receivers, Am. football, futbol/soccer guys and hockey and basketball players capable of sub-2:15 800m with simply one track season.
Yes.
You'll need to run faster to be competitive in HS though. The good news is if you keep training, you'll improve.
I am a girl. Lol

Oh, so it's good? It was just a time trial.

I am not straight off the couch. I do soccer.

Very good! 1954, female one mile world record, 4:59.6.
Are you going to maintain soccer as your main sport?
Track or road? If road, Downhill or wind aided?
Regardless, extremely impressive for a female that doesn’t have extensive mile training.
Unless you are going for a soccer scholarship, you may want to switch to track/cross country.
If you are in high school, you are in the wrong sport.

Not sure why people keep asking this question. It’s easy, with a little surfing on the Internet, to discover what is good and what isn’t in his particular circumstance. Besides, all that really matters is whether you’re enjoying yourself, unless you’re aiming for the gold medal. Good is different to different people.
If you’re a regular Joe, yes. If you’re Kenyan, no.
I think "she" is a troll. Impossible for a woman to walk off the couch to a sub 5 mile.
Depends on how far under 5 you are. If you go out and run 3:42 for a new world record, technically this is a sub 5 mile, and it is obviously fast.

I agree, if OP is female and ran 5 min.
She plays soccer and doesn't know if 5 flat is good for a 1600m?
What, she did this by herself?
It is possible, but otherwise 0/10.

Whose butt did you pull those numbers out of? My highschool (usually top 5 at meets with 20+ schools) usually had 5-6 sub 5 milers, 5-6 sub 2:15 800s, and 6-7 sub 18 XC guys.
I once doubled at a dual meet running 2:11 and 4:48 and won both events. I won the mile by almost 100m as well. Not bragging about those results, as I actually l sandbagged the crap out of that meet.
People tend to forget that the average hs track boys mile is about 5:25.
Either you are trolling or ridiculously ignorant.
