People are losing site of the fact that for his level, he actually does not seem to have a lot of road racing experience. His last half marathon was shortly after college (he's 35 now). If I'm not mistaken his first serious road marathon was fall of 2019 (Amsterdam), then he turned around two weeks later and ran NYC, then a few weeks later ran World Mountain Championships. When he got into the youtube gig (I think) around 4 years ago, he was at first vlogging about family life, before he niched down the channel focused on his running life, and so he bought a used pair of Hoka's off of Craigs list, and started training more seriously.

You mean from altitude? Or temp.? The science behind altitude training still has a long way to go. Some claim you are better off racing right after hitting sea level, others say 2 - 3 weeks. As far as temp./humidity, this is something he could have easily replicated at home on the treadmill. Not sure one more day would have made more than a few seconds difference.
If ackley were to review the history, she would see that I was the one raising my eyebrows as to what his track workout times meant (in a questioning, skeptical way...but not overboard with trollish mean skepticism.) I came away a lot more cautious. From the evidence being presented, I wasn't convinced he had a low 1:04 in the bag. But it was Seth that was showing the confidence, so I figured he had more information than we did. Thus, my first inclination on the prediction contest was to pick a 1:05 and change, but I changed it to a high 1:04's at the last minute. I wanted to believe.
But just for review, everybody, Seth himself warned us that his training method this block "may not work". Look here for evidence:
"Aerobic Monster" {this may not work}"

And here:
"Functional Overreaching Begins {will it work?}"

Thank You!!! Naples Half-'Thon Race organizers for not cancelling this race. We need more races to return to normality.

No.......first we need more "normality" and then the races can follow, NOT the other way around.

It’s Florida! What’d you expect?! Anyways, San Diego native Steven Martinez & Graduate Assistant Coach for Augusta University debuted in the HM. Finished second place & said he regretted not going out with Stinson in the beginning. He went on to finish the last 5k in 14:35 clocking at 64:35!
"Normality" is probably the wrong word. Better yet, non-Fearful, but smart. The one's that need to be locked down and overly cautious are the aged and immune compromised. No need for the rest of us to live in a government mandated quarantine for this long.
Can you post your recent results or coaching credentials please. I think you are just a blowhard.
Worse than a blowhard. If you are a fan of any runner or speak positively of them, you must then be their mom?! Infantile.

Well it appears that I have upset some SJD Global Running fan boys! I stand by my words. He has shown poor pacing judgement in his two road marathons and is given to overthinking his training. He has talent, especially for a guy that is much closer to 40 than 25. I do think that he should hire an objective coach that would tailor a program to his strengths instead of his self written and, at times, self sabotaging "everything but the kitchen sink" approach.
I have guided a couple of state high school champions and a good number of kids that improved from JV status to D1 collegiate running. Passing along knowledge and a love for the sport is quite rewarding. I teach kids that running success is the result of hard work rooted in sound scientific principles applied to an individual athlete's talents. Once you understand that, then it is a simple sport devoid of all but one mystery - the athlete's genetic limits. Coaching is a fun hobby that I do in addition to my day job. No money exchanged nor fame sought.
As for my recent results, there are none since I retired from racing 28 years ago. Kudos to Mr. DeMoor as he is now 15 seconds faster than I ever covered the half marathon distance. I wistfully contemplate what I might have done had we possessed carbon plated super shoes some three decades ago. Alas, no sense dwelling on the past as time and technology march on.
He's doing fine. He won the Pikes Peak Marathon, and is now running near International Class on the roads. Watch his videos, with humility, and you may learn something.

BTW, that is what DeMoor did. He was unrecruited out of high school, read Running with the Buffaloes, and tried to walk on at the University of Colorado under Mark Wetmore, but he didn't make it. So he trained up and tried again the next year and did make it. This is not his first rodeo.

. The guy has a 2:18 PB in the full, and ran a 2:20:10 on the Marathon Olympic Trials course last year, and has never run a Half Marathon race before today?

Congrats to Martinez; that 64:35 shows 2:15 potential, per Daniels' calculator.
STFU old man
You can't fault Seth for making positive vlogs. Good race coverage. Hopefully tomorrow he'll break down the race in better detail. Made me miss racing even more.
Awesome video.
You could tell Parker Stinson is the only pro in that field... so much power in every stride, he just looks different compared to the guys behind him that were locked down a bit in form and limited in stride length towards the end.
Great stuff.
