What does 'strength workout' refer to in running. I'm reading a PowerPoint that John Gondak, PSU XC/TF coach, put together. He has workouts like 5-6 x 800 in 2:30, 2 sets of 5 x 300 with 90 sec rest and 4 min rest on sets in 45 sec, and 3 x 200, 2 x 300, 400, 2 x 300, 3 x 200 in 60-70 sec per 400 as strength workouts. What does that mean? My guess would have to be it refers to aerobic fitness.

The 'strength workouts' I'm speaking of are on slides 7-8.
