With Gwen Jorgenson’s career all but over, and knowing that she has fallen amazingly short from her own goal of Olympic Marathon Gold, how has she compared to your expectations?
Keep in mind:
800: 2:12
1500: 4:19
5000: 15:10i
10,000: 31:55
Half: 1:10
Full: 2:36
For me, I’d say about par to what I expected in the 5 and 10, and a bit slower in the marathon (low 2:30s would’ve been my guess).
Tbh, after her 15:15 indoor 5km when she first joined BTC I thought she had a higher ceiling, but she never reached it
How has Gwen performed to your expectations?

10k is like 30s slow and I would have expected like a 2:27 with the old shoes (call it like a 2:24 these days). But she is about what I expected where she is a notch down (i.e. national class instead of world class). There was some chance in the marathon that she would outperform her shorter distance stuff and be a threat to make the team but it was always an outside chance at best.

My expectations were much higher due to her comments. She is a world class athlete who knows her workouts and her ceiling but she fell well short of what she portrayed.

I thought she could scare the AR in the 10k, which, with due respect to Molly, is probably the softest AR at an Olympic event.
The marathon was going to be tough because for most athletes, you need pretty high mileage to do well, and you can't just jump to that from a triathlon background.
In any event, a few injuries can make an Olympic cycle seem awfully short. I still hope we see more from her. -
Expected more videos tbh

I thought she would do better, maybe even make the Olympic team in the 10k. I follow ITU and was a fan. I'm sorry she came up short but admire her leaving her comfort zone and going for it. Staying in triathlon would have been the easy path.

I expected Stanley to have a sibling by now and her using it as an excuse as to why she failed. -
Based on the hype, she is a dismal failure.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the Marathon. I've coached a lesser talented female (no where near an Olympic Gold Medalist) to a 2:30 marathon and yet she runs somewhere around 2:36? Perhaps it is all those years focusing on the 10K and sitting on her backside riding a bike that did her in.
I actually think her 15:10 and sub-32:00 are very strong, but amazing how her Half Marathon and Marathon are so poor.
