As a employee at William and Mary, I am very disappointed in the lack of clarity the men’s track & field athletes are receiving. I have talked to many higher-ups (Administrators) who are NOT planning to have the Men’s Track Team around for more than 1 year. Their plan is to phase out the program once the seniors are gone.
If you would like proof... Then ask what recruits they have signed to come in next year for the men’s team. The answer is NO ONE!!! I feel terrible for the current student athletes and believe it is my job to put this out there. If you want to compete in track then unfortunately you need to transfer ASAP!
I really wish the administration who will be responsible for making this decision would just tell the coaches the truth, and the athletes. They are spreading lies unknowingly… But this program will not be around in 2022.
If you know anyone at William and Mary please pass this information along to them and maybe we can help our student athletes find a new home.
Disappointed in my school!

Big if true
-
Are women’s T&F planned for phaseout also?
-
No ... to scared to go against the women or Title IX.
-
Is this true? I pledged $1000 to the athletic dept contingent on them retaining men’s track and field. If they turn around and eliminate it in a years time then I’m not making good on that pledge.
-
Name names of the administrators. I don't think you are telling the truth.
-
Jeremy Bumfluff, Philomena Crackwart and Sidney Arsefiddler

I'm a moron and can't spell a simple word like 'too', it seems. Must be American.

A lot of people are going to have to come to terms with this. I have heard this as well. My son goes to W&M but will NOT be back next year. The AD has promised nothing & the coaches have told us what we want to hear but there is no guarantee. Just “it’s looking really good” or “there’s a great chance” or “we have heard no bad news”. The problem is that the coaches are out of the loop & my son will not be banking on his love to stay with out any guarantee.
A $1000 donation is not going to save the track and field team for years to come. It will help for one year, but unfortunately this comes down to a money issue. Track is just simply not valued enough to keep around.
Very upset! -
First off, I am very good friends with Forest Braden. He has been dealt a very bad hand. From my understanding he does not have very much insight on how long the program will be around for. Of course he wants people to stay at W&M in case they do have a season. He’s probably looking at it from his own perspective - if everyone leaves we will struggle.
I have expressed to him that I think he would be better off to look for a new job.
All I will say is, if they make this decision he will not be at William & Mary very long. Even if they decide to keep the teams - I know he is looking elsewhere. He applied for the Xavier job. -
Do you really think it is a good idea to post personal information on this site. I would not be happy about it if I was still coaching and someone let out news I was looking for another job. Sorry, but this is no one's business. I would not consider you a friend of the coach.

Friends don’t always agree… I just think people should know so they have every opportunity to find a new home & not be blindsided. I mean that’s what the coach is doing!

To be honest, Forest hasn't done a good job at W&M. Particularly with the women. -

How long has he had the women. Wasn't there another coach there for his first couple of years that had the women, and Forest had the men? If I remember, he was an oooold timer, who had a lot of stops on his resume? If he has only had the women's team under his control for a few years, and was still building "his" vision, and developing the team dynamic when COVID hit, well, then your assessment seems unfair. -

You are foolish, stop spying on people. Classes aren't in session at any schools right now and most people are working virtually. You could be in Cancun on the beach and still working full-time for a univ in USA. -
Bollocks.

No one on letsrun uses VPNs.
-
Wow.... LetsRun seems to have friends at W&M also.
Come on & give me a break. I’m in NC right now as well. Does that mean I’m not friends with the coach?
Need to leave this one alone or you will also join the list with egg in your face.
Remember this post should be about the student-athletes & the lack of information they are receiving. W&M students-athletes... RUN AWAY! Give yourself a chance to run track & not have to go through this process next year at the same time. -
Robert - I can also confirm this is going on. My Daughter was one who signed the letter getting the men “Reinstated”. Ever since then the men have been trying to get some type of confirmation in regards to what reinstated means. (1 year or from now on)
There is no commitment and as we speak there are men in the transfer portal and looking to leave. My advice would be to get out now & find a place that values you & the sport. Unfortunately unless you’re a female, I do not think that place is W&M.
