Anyways. 2:01 seems more impressive than 1:49 though. Considering the second fastest is 2:04, 3 seconds slower. Second for guys is just .4 sec slower. Considering that maybe 15 sec at best for difference.

2018 1:48 and 2:00.
2017 1:47 and 2:00.
That is 3 years of 13, 12, and 12 for the top runner difference.
We had a graduating class of around 160 with 2 people consistently under 2:00 my senior year.
Prs of 1:55, 1:57, 2:02, and 2:03 (Me) our 4 x 8 team ended up at 8:02 - not too bad for such a small school, but 9 out of every 10 years we would have 0 guys go under 2:05
I don't think anyone broke 2:00 at my high school in the four years I was there.
I only ran my last two years but don't think anyone did it the first two.
The school record was 1:52, but that was years before I went there.
I ran 2:02, but was a 200m/400m runner primarily.
no one, in 35 years
No one in the history of my school has gone sub-2 in the 800. School record is 2 flat and has stood for over a decade. (Hopefully not for much longer though ?) For reference, last year we had a graduating class of less than 50.

My girl friend says she is in better shape than me. I run a 1:58 and she runs 2:16. If it was 20 sec that would make her fitter than me but 15 sec would make her less fit. We're probably about the same lol but what do you all think. Btw my school has three guys under 2:00 and her team has one girl under 2:15. Generally a stronger guys program than girls though, as we placed higher at States
The verdict is too close to call. I suspect she is better positioned to compete at state and get scholarship offers, but I could be wrong.
Interesting. I hadn't thought of it that way but you are correct. I looked up a team's published recruiting standards. 1:54 and 2:15 are the walk-on numbers.
My Senior year of High School we had four under 2:00. We ran a 7:50 in the 4x8 at the state meet. Two seniors, one junior, and one sophomore. It was an exciting event, we were undefeated in the 4x8 all year until states, where we lost.
As far as I know, nobody has.
Nobody did before I graduated, and athletic.net is reporting any since. There was a 4:15 miler, but it looks like he rarely did an open 800 and the pr is listed above 2:00.
The school I was at before that probably had 1.5 per year, one guy under and one guy sniffing it. They had a couple years with 4 or more though, and would win/challenge for the state 4x800 champ then. Both schools were about 600-700 students.
As for a conversion, of all events the 800 probably has the biggest error margin. I'd probably say 2:20 though.
Right now, we have 1 guy under 2, and another 2 that could almost definitely do it. A 400 runner that ran 2 flat last year, and a 2:02 guy that could do it with better pacing.
I think come outdoor, we'll probably have 4-5 guys under 2, we're normally stronger in the 800 than 1600-3200 for whatever reason.
