I’ve put 270K miles on my 97 Camry and spent thousands of dollars on maintenance repairs over the years. By “maintenance” I mean anything that is expected to quit on a car after a while (radiator, timing belt, muffler, exhaust pipes, power steering rack, brakes, etc.). The latest expense was a new fuel pump (~$600).
Obviously, I love the car. It still runs great (even though it looks like crap). I keep telling myself that as long as I’m not putting money into repairing the engine/transmission, the maintenance costs are justified. Plus, a few hundred dollars a year in repairs is less than the cost of a new car (deposit, insurance hikes, monthly payments, etc).
Question: At what point should I call it quits? Or should I have done that already?
