Jamin, I hate to be that guy, but that 1:07 was not run on ice, or snow. Normal conditions, in March with temps in the mid 40's. Low humidity, mainly downhill and in Alpha Flys. Bundled up, nope.... In a racing jersey and shorts.....

Should have someone to run with and push him.
Two under 1:04 in 2019
That was when Americans were trying to get the Oly Standard. Previous years had some Kenyans. It will be interesting to see if the current 'demic situation restricts the field, or if there is pent up demand by some fast guys to get after it.
1:07?
Is it supposed to be interesting?
He for sure needs to do more top end work.
8x1mile
5x3k etc etc

I have to admit I was doubtful when he originally announed his goal to break 1:05 early this year.
Then I saw this speed tuneup at altitude
* 3 x 1600m at 4:45, 4:42, 4:45
* 3 x 1000m at 2:59, 3:01, 3:02, 3:01
* 4 x 400m at 70-71
Combined with the fact that he's an aerobic monster, I think he can break 1:05.
Discus.

This shows he has some speed in his legs. His last annual birthday all-out "no speed training" mile was 4:38 which he was very happy with at the time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFXl8XKVRlk&t=495sI have my doubts as he only uses an overly simple training methodology of 13 differing workout types. You have to incorporate ALL 34 different runs into your program! I saw his January 2 vlog and he didn't mention if he was doing any whistling bungholes, spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or even a single whistling kitty chaser?
His training indicates a mid 106 time. With the Carbon "factor " that gets him 10 sec a mile faster.
My prediction is 1:04.57. I would be impressed if he broke 1:06 in a non carbon shoe. just saying
Hi Ackley. What are you thinking, after the 10k tuneup vlog this morning?
"I think I was going to share something else, but..." :-)

Very hard to predict who might show given the virus. There is still $$ on the table to be had and what with the E Africans no longer making the scene, it might be an opportunity for a few elite men & women to sneak in the Top 3 and take home some money. It also attracts some serious age groupers (Dykes, Jeannie Rice, me!.....). Hoping to see some comp on the start line for Seth. ANY other year & he'd have lots of company.
Hey holpin, do some research and read up on how Canova turned around Sondre Moen. The kid was an aerobic monster, but had to hammer him with lactate flushing workouts to teach his body to shuttle lactate more efficiently. They did a massive 3-4 month block of huge speed workouts, over and over again, to get him to 13:20/27:20 and then to his sub-1hr Half Marathon and 2:05 Marathon. And by the way, Seth ran a 10,000m time trial today on the track in 31:57. The data speaks for itself.

He doesn't train the most intelligently, as he doesn't do enough lactate flushing work to get super fast, but he's super fit.
"lactate flushing work"? Do you know what you are talking about?
Standard Setter wrote:He needs to understand he needs 20+ workouts like the one he just did to even be as fast as America's top women over the marathon, etc., but he somehow believes just 1-2 workouts are enough.
That's dumb. If he is faster than America's top women over the half, then he's going to be faster than them over the full. He hasn't even run that many full marathons. His marathon PB in Amsterdam was poorly paced, where he went out way over his head (but props nonetheless).
In the OP, check out truelove running alongside seth at 9:40. Truelove impressive especially whilst filming too.

I love this
Wish I was running a half-'thon in Naples, Florida in a week instead of being stuck in the endless California lockdown.
Bookmark this post. He will go out too hard and rig the last 4 miles. Hope I'm wrong

I say 1:04:38. Guy has been running 130 mile weeks at altitude. Hopefully he won’t go out fast. One of his goals is to come in 3 d male at New York.
He's delusional. A 1:05 HM is bad. Really bad.

If he does, it looks like he'll have company as Parker Stinson is registered. It will be interesting to see if Parker is in decent shape and goes out balls to the walls as has been his wont. Does Seth run his own race or try to latch on? Only other names I recognized are Will Cross and Kurt Roeser, both capable of a 1:06. On paper Seth may find himself running pretty much alone if Parker is reeling off a 1:03 and the few other elites are on 1:06 pace. Weather may still play a factor as all of these guys are coming down here to Naples from Colorado.
Reality police coming in hot... his workouts indicate his fitness to be on par with the top US women, maybe a little off of that in the 5K where I'd put him at 1440. If he chews his Nick Symmonds run gum on race day and other factors line up, 66:45 may be in reach, and he should be excited to build on a performance in that neighborhood. Going out on 64 flat pace and expecting to hang, without having put in long (3K+) interval efforts @ 450 pace, may lead to some heartbreak as it once did for me.
Something people in this thread aren't considering is that the Naples half is sending people off in waves of 3 at a time and asking participants to wear masks when they can't distance from one another. Seth will probably just ignore the mask rule as he's done at other races, but the small waves means it is that much more unlikely he'll have people to run with and race. He very well might be flying across the country for a glorified time trial.
"a glorified time trial", yes, but one that may bring a nice payday. And of course, more screen time fodder. Flights are super affordable right now & who wouldn't want to come to Naples in the middle of January?

Because COVID? I think the real question is whether he will catch the virus on this trip. My money is on yes.
