I just ran 20x400m with 30 seconds of jogging rest and 5 seconds of standing rest in 1:29 each. It felt pretty easy, like I could have done at least 3 more.
How fast do you think I can run a 5k right now?

18:51.
I'll guess about 18:00. I ran 18:22 in a time trial this summer. 3 weeks earlier or so I'd done 20 X 400 averaging just under 1:29, but.....I had more rest (1:00 jog after each), and I most definitely couldn't have done 3 more
good luck!
Dave
Do 6 x 1200m sub-4:30 with 2 minute recovery then get back to us.

I would say that, because of the volume and short rest, 1:29 should be right around 5k pace. Maybe 5k pace is a little faster. By how much, I'm not sure without knowing PRs, mileage, and if you've done more specific workouts. I'll say sub-18:30.
i think high 17s is a possibility due to the short jog rest and ability to do more.
the same times would be 18 high if it were 60s standing rest and you were toasted after
I just did my time trial today - it was 18:26
Way to go. Race your 5K the day after 20X400 workout.
How many days ago did you perform your 20x400? You quite possibly left better TT results in your workout.
Maybe the more experienced dhaaga will share how many days he recovered between his 20x400 and TT.
Idk, I hit it pretty spot on (18:30). OP will definitely go faster in the future but 20 x 400 on short rest isn't super specific and probably comes out pretty close to 5k pace for most runners. Unsure if you've been cranking out 800's, k's, 1200s, 1600s, tempos ,etc., but the 5k requires endurance. Younger runners, especially, can crank out 400s but might need some more strength stuff under their belts to get better over 5k.

....gotta tell my daughters to use "more experienced" instead of "old" to describe me; thanks.
20 X 400 was July 6, and goal TT (the 18:22 i mentioned above) was July 25. I did a practice TT July 11 (18:38) and various other easier workouts in between. Was following a schedule from Pete Magill's fast 5k book. --Dave

I did that on Monday, and I did my TT on Thursday - maybe a bit quick
